Simply RAW :)))

SO, we’re in Ottawa right now, where we’ve been enjoying the yumminess of the Simply Raw Festival. FUN :) It rained like CRAAAAAAZY here the first day of the festival and today we were blessed with gorgeous sun and masses of visitors to this AMAZING free raw food event. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I LOVE the work Natasha and Mark from Simply Raw carry out. They have graciously hosted this free festival every year for the last 3 years and they do SUCH a beautiful job, with SO much love, heart, presence and commitment. Absolutely gorgeous service in action to the raw food message ;) LOVE it...and what a GORGEOUS festie this has been...great speakers, great booths, great crowd, great food. Such a vibrant, fun celebration...we are SO blessed ;)
Just imagine if free raw food events like this were happening all over the place :O It was so amazing to stand at our booth and see people literally wandering into the festival off the street, who seemed to have had NO exposure to raw foods before at all...of course, this inevitably led to being asked ‘the protein question’ a few times more often than usual, LOL ;) It’s all part of the game though and we were delighted to share all that we could. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth and thanks as well to everyone who came along to our talks...we had great fun meeting you all :) I’ve uploaded a few pics from the event to Flickr – you can see those HERE (and to the right you can see a pic of myself and those gorgeous Raw Divas Amy and Tera ;)

on September the 5th I had:

1 quart water
shot of E3 Live
2 tsp wheatgrass powder
2 cups water

3 cups water
2 shots of E3 Live
3 tsp wheatgrass powder
3 cups water

OoooOoooo, we were SO excited to visit an amazing eco-fabric boutique here in Ottawa today, called ‘Adorit’ at 159 York Street, with gorgeous organic cotton and bamboo clothes along with reclaimed fabrics and fair-trade goodies from around the world. The shop is run by a super-yummy raw-licious young couple called Lucas and Emma – you can see a little about their store on their site HERE (at the moment though their site mostly covers their fair-trade work with people in Tibet). My favourite two other WONDERFUL online eco-clothing resources I’ve come across recently are:

Adili (HUGE online eco-store in the UK)
White Apricot (Equally enormous and fabulous US online eco-store)

I am SO excited how many more eco-friendly clothing options seem to become available all the time now – we live in such exciting times ;)

on September the 6th I had:

1 quart water
shot of E3 Live
slice of pesto pizza with salad, followed by ½ a bag of freeze-dried durian
2 cups water

2 cups water
1.5 cups veggie juice: celery, carrot, beetroot, ginger

on September the 7th I had:

2 more shots of E3 Live
the other half plate of stuffed pepper and sprouts, the other half packet of durian and a selection of raw chocolate nibbles
3 cups water

If you subscribe to the lovely Jinjee’s ‘Daily Raw Inspiration’ emails, you will have seen this message from her recently about the TV programme her beautiful troupe of raw vegan children have been creating, called ‘The Kidz’. They have posted the whole of the first episode onto YouTube for everyone to enjoy – I think this is SO cool :) The children made the WHOLE show themselves and they would love to make more - here’s how Jinjee described the project in her message:

“...a show that conscious parents can enjoy with their kids, as well as a show that is vibrant and green enough to entertain indigo children! If you like it, if your children like it, sign up and inspire us to make more episodes of this series at http://www.TheGardenDiet.com/morekidz

Here is the free Youtube version of Episode 1 of The Kidz, - Journey to Seal Island
: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWgYt0Sp1HE

You'll see our children, Raven, Jome, Shale and Adagio, in their first acting roles, playing four kids who set sail on their own nature adventures! You'll see them hiking, foraging, sailing, and fighting! You'll see sea elephants up close! You'll see Storm and Jinjee in their home office. And you'll see an animation that the kids did for an introduction to this show!”

Here's a yummy little reminder that came through on the free 'ThinkArete.com' daily email recently and really resonated for me - LOVE it ;

"'Pain is a relatively objective, physical phenomenon; suffering is our psychological resistance to what happens.
Events may create physical pain, but they do not in themselves create suffering.
Resistance creates suffering.
Stress happens when your mind resists what is...The only problem in your life is your mind's resistance to life as it unfolds.'

~ Dan Millman, 21st century philosopher from The Way of the Peaceful Warrior

The Dalai Lama says basically exactly the same thing: "Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional."

Are you suffering?
If so, what are you resisting?
Allow life to unfold…"

Beautiful...:)))) You can sign up for the free ThinkArete daily emails HERE...ENJOY :)

May you embrace your unfolding journey today with joy, love and giggles :)

OoOOoOoo, here’s an exciting opportunity for someone – this just came in via John McCabe, who you may remember produces that wonderful free raw resources file that I wrote about a few weeks ago (you can download that HERE). I’m feeling SO excited about the Funky Raw Festie in Sussex this weekend – just about to head off there very soon as I write this...and reflecting on the beautiful synchronicity that it’s coinciding with a Full Moon in Aquarius tomorrow, on Saturday – how IDEAL :) We’re just coming out of a New Moon in Leo and here’s some of what marvellous astrologer Lisa Dale Miller shares about this Full Moon tomorrow:

“This is the Full Moon for involvement in something larger than you. Remember that Aquarius rules the breakdown of the old ways by questioning the status quo. Those who create revolutionary change in societies are always the ones who can vision far beyond accepted beliefs and structures. Step fully into a commitment to teach and serve by breaking down the attraction to focusing only on your own life. Selfless giving to others is a true Aquarian vision of working for the collective upliftment of all sentient beings. This is the Full Moon to honor freedom, idealism, humanitarianism, egalitarianism, and the revolutionary impulse toward reform, without causing harm to anyone. Aquarius is the impulse to raise-up everyone and leave no one behind. So in service to these calls to action, become responsible and find out what is really happening around you. Get involved in your community, volunteer your time, and raise awareness in your neighborhood. It’s summer, have a block party and raise funds for a good cause.”

Sounds wonderful – enjoy your celebrations, brothers and sisters :) You can read Lisa's report in full on her site HERE.

Show Your LOVE :)

WOW – did you see the review of ‘Raw Emotions’ posted over on RawFoodRightNow.com yet? They just posted it up a couple of days ago and it was so much fun for me to see this book summarised from someone else’s perspective. So much of my time and energy this last year went into co-creating this book that it’s kind of challenging for me to get perspective on it anymore – you know that feeling? When you’ve worked on something so intensely, you’re just immersed in it and can’t get an overview...well, this review helped to show me what it was that this book is all about ;) LOL... They even give a section-by-section breakdown of what the book contains...
Here are a few little excerpts from their review – you can read the whole thing HERE.

“In Raw Emotions, Angela Stokes takes her six years of experience overcoming a lifetime of emotional eating addictions, and provides a practical and spiritual blueprint for traversing the inner raw emotional journey. From identifying how your emotions are tied to food, to creating your Optimal Vision, and following up with an incredible wealth of very useful tips and tools, Angela has run the gambit in Raw Emotions. The book is a complete guide. From start to finish, Angela winds you around each potential pitfall and giving you "power-ups" along the way for those extra tough times. This book truly is a wealth of information. We are confident that any reader interested in really exploring, releasing, and finally overcoming their troubles with going and staying raw will obtain serious benefit with a read through of Angela’s Raw Emotions. She knows this journey, inside and out. She's lived it. She's been there, and because "success leaves clues", it's highly recommended that everyone who is considering (or has!) changed their diet significantly in the more raw direction, grab a copy and read with an open mind and heart.”
Thanks guys :) You can read that whole review HERE and purchase Raw Emotions HERE.

on May the 12th I had:

1.5 quarts water
water of 2 large young coconuts
masses of rambutans
2 cups water
2 tbsp bee pollen and a small handful of dulse
1 small round delicious durian
2 quarts water

Are you familiar with the world of ‘RawBabyAlex’ and mum Melissa Gilbert? If not, Melissa has been documenting her raw food baby’s progress online for quite some time and it makes fascinating reading – especially for anyone interested in raising kids raw. Melissa has actually compiled two wonderful e-books of all the different recipes that Alex has loved as he’s been growing up, from baby foods to toddler treats. (He is such a healthy big boy now that his blog has actually been moved along to ‘Raw ToddlerAlex’ ;) Melissa also keeps her own lovely blog at RawMom.blogspot.com, as well as writing regularly for the info-packed raw magazine Pear.
Unfortunately, this amazing little raw family are having some pretty challenging times at present...in February they were burgled and all their possessions were taken. They moved house and even state, only to discover that they cannot find work in their new location and that very soon they will likely be homeless. They are in a time of crisis. On her most recent blog, Melissa writes that she visited the local food bank to try to get something to eat. They had no raw foods, except 5 bunches of celery, which they gave her. When she got home however, she realised they were almost totally rotten and unusable. Melissa is an incredible mother and gives tirelessly and with so much love to the raw community through her writings. I would feel so sad to see this amazing young family living out in the scorching Arizona desert in a tent with seemingly nowhere left to turn. They really could use some support right now - this is an opportunity to help out an incredible raw family. Instead of just asking people to donate money to help them with their situation however, I’d love to recommend that you invest in Melissa’s 2 fabulous ebooks – ‘Sunsational Raw Baby Food’ and ‘Sun-Sational Smoothies’. They are just $10 each, available from her site HERE. Imagine the difference $20 could make to a family that is in dire straits right now...and YOU get smthg wonderful too – two recipe books packed with tried-and-tested recipes ;) I sincerely hope the raw food community will reach out and support this loving family unit in their time of need...please feel free to re-post this message and pass it along to others in the raw food community too...and enjoy the recipes ;)
(P.S. If you DO feel moved to simply send a donation to the family, their Paypal email address is loverawlife@gmail.com) Thanks.

on May the 13th I had:

1.5 quarts water
large amount of fresh rambutan
water of 2 large young coconuts
bowl of blended yum: bananas, coconut meat, spirulina, maca, vanilla powder, with some seaweed on the side

Many health-orientated people in Canada have become concerned this week about ‘Bill C-51 – if you haven’t heard abt this yet, here’s the ‘skinny’ from the lovely Natasha of SimplyRaw.com:

“If the Bill is passed, it will affect all Canadians' rights to health through the regulation of vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements. Currently, many of our councilors and MPPs are unaware of the details of Bill C-51. Canadians need to be informed and act immediately as it is a very serious matter. I just blogged about Bill C-51 at http://www.ottawaraw.wordpress.com Here is the online petition: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/billc51FI

Thanks Natasha...Canadians, the Bill ball’s now in your court ;)

We also spoke to a charming, vibrant crowd over in Montreal a couple of nights ago, at an event catered by the luscious beings at Cru de Essence…this little crew of light beings have secured a fabulous venue overlooking the whole city, where they hold events, produce the most love-infused kombucha I’ve ever tasted and provide fabulous raw meals…WOW…yes, we’ve had a GREAT welcome to this area – we were even interviewed for a whole segment on the daily news a couple of days back, which a LOT of people seemed to tune in to ;) …thanks to you all who’ve been part of this journey…and so…tomorrow…ONWARDS…we ride west at dawn…yeeeeeeeeeee-HAH…

Simply Raw, Speaking and Spirulina...

I’m excited to say I’m going to be speaking at the second annual Simply Raw Festival in Ottawa, Canada on September the 15th :) Home of the infamous ‘Raw Pie Contest’, this is a wonderful FREE family event, from 10am-5pm in Ottawa’s Central Park. I’ll be speaking in the afternoon, along with Matt, Dorit and Brendan Brazier – yeeeeeee-HAH – hope to see you there if you’re in the area…

On August the 18th I had:

2 litres water
½ large papaya
800ml celery/cucumber/apple/ginger/fennel/radish/romaine juice
bowl of exquisite kale salad with heirloom tomatoes, avocado, lemon juice, dulse, red pepper, sprouts and sauerkraut
1 litre water
2 persimmons/Sharon fruit (YAY;)
700ml spinach/carrot/romaine juice
slice of leftover banana bread with cream cheese topping
1 litre water
400ml rooibos tea

One reader - Gail - wrote recently asking me to explain what ‘spirulina sticks’ are – which have been popping up intermittently in my intake of late…hmmmm...well…to be honest, I really don’t know…lol…a friend brought them back from Auroville, the ‘eco-city’ in India - they are tiny little crunchy sticks of spirulina - see pic – absolutely amazing texture and taste – like tiny little bits of crunchy spirulina-flavoured pretzels ;) As far as we know, there is nothing in there but spirulina and it’s hand-harvested and dried in the sun in Auroville…I’m very interested to know more too though , as I’ve never seen spirulina like it…perhaps this is how it looks when it’s just been harvested, before it’s ground to the powder we’re more familiar with…hmmmm…

on August the 19th I had:

1.5 litres water
1 box blueberries
800ml cucumber/celery/apple/radish/ginger juice
800ml ‘garden’ juice
box of strawberries
1 litre water
1.5 durians
3 persimmons
1 litre water

Yep...t'was another durian day ;) We went to play out in London – eat durian and go to the theatre…FUN :) We gave a homeless Chinese guy in Chinatown a whole durian, which he seemed very happy about…and we saw a darkly hilarious film from New Zealand called ‘Eagle vs Shark’ about an archetypal ‘loser’ pair who fall in love…very amusing…and inspired me to get on back to New Zealand…I was there back in 2000 – before I went raw…I absolutely LOVED it…Matt and I will in fact be down there this winter sometime, doing talks and a bit of travelling…we’d love to hear from you if you have suggestions for places you’d like to hear us talk there – email me at angela@rawreform.com and we’ll see what we can dream into being ;)

One love,
Angela. xxx
