Here's a handy little tip sent in by the delightful Ricki in Arizona, to help you identify organic produce items in supermarkets from their stickers:
* Any sticker that begins with the number '9' and contains five digits in total denotes the produce is ORGANIC.
* Any sticker that begins with the number '3' or '4' and has ONLY four numbers total means CONVENTIONAL, NOT ORGANIC.
* Any sticker that begins with the number '8' shows that food is GENETICALLY MODIFIED!
Eeeeeek, very good to know – hope that helps y'all out there if you weren't aware of that little system already...I'm not sure if this system spreads up into Canada too, or beyond the USA – it's at least apparently valid here though ;) Ricki suggests it's a good way to quickly check that the items you pick up are genuinely organic and haven't been accidentally misplaced in the produce displays ;)

Another useful–looking new resource that was brought to my attention recently is the Neighborrow.com site – have you seen that? It's basically a site where people can connect to swap/share things together, either in local areas or through virtual communities...e.g. you want to shampoo your carpets or dig a hole in your garden and don't have the necessary equipment? Check out if there's anyone in your 'Neighborrow–hood' to borrow things from instead of buying/renting machines. You can even join 'virtual' groups based around shared interests, e.g. perhaps a raw food group can be created to share books/dvds/dried foods/other resources...fun, non?
