A mouthful of durian helps the medicine go down...

I saw Mary Poppins at the theatre this weekend. It was FANTASTIC – in every sense of the word…mmmmmmm…wow, I just LOVE musicals…as I suspect is becoming clear ;) Yes, more to come on YouTube soon, I promise… I grew up on a diet of greasy food, Monty Python and musicals…and seeing Mary Poppins again now, as an adult, was amazing to me…I appreciated it on so many levels that I had never consciously understood as a child…yet now I can see the essence of what it was that I must have loved so much back then…aside from being able to pull whole hat-stands out of her bag, laugh her way up on to the ceiling and so on, she is the most AMAZING light worker…truly ;) LOL…Mary goes around from place to place, spreading light, love, joy and genuine communication between people – there’s no nonsense with this nanny, yet she is pure heart-energy, moving and shaking her way through the skies and down chimneys into peoples’ lives…and when the work is done and the heart spaces are opened with those people, that’s it, she’s off, to the next place…beautiful…if you’ve never seen this show, you’re perhaps quite perplexed at my blatherings here – well, I’d really encourage you to watch it – it’s so innocently inspiring and uplifting…enjoy :)

On July the 28th I had:

1.5 litres water
2 tbsp green powder
1 tbsp sunflower seeds mixed with wakame seaweed flakes
1 litre water
piece of jack fruit and 1 whole durian 2 litres water

Ahhhh, yes, it was definitely a durian day on Saturday for me…as evidenced in the picture above at the pagoda in London’s Chinatown…yummmm…quite magnificently, we also managed to do a re-run of events this time last year, ending up taking durian on the underground again and into the theatre too (see THIS old newsletter for my dramatic durian encounter on a London rooftop last July) ;) LOL…I suspect it was not much of a ‘coincidence’ that the girl sitting in front of me during the play moved halfway through the performance…eeek…sorry people…the durian passion just has me in its grip…along with THIS steamy British laydeee too, so it seems – OOOO la la, madame...

On July the 29th I had:

1.5 litres water
700ml green juice with apple and fennel
bowl of chia seeds soaked in blended jack fruit and apple juice
1 litre water
350ml green juice
leafy green salad with nut balls, followed by lime mousse and chocolate/almond cake (courtesy of the wonderful Raw Fairies catering now offered at Bonningtons Cafe in Vauxhall.)
1 litre water
2 tbsps green powder
500ml water

Q & A
A question from one of YOU to ME…
“When you add lime juice to you green juice do you juice the lime peel and all through the juicer or use a separate citrus juicer, then add the lime juice to your green juice? About how much lime juice do you add?”
…well…I don’t juice the lime peel…I tend to roll the lime on the counter-top first, pushing down on it (a top tip for getting maximum amount of juice out of any citrus fruit, easily, as it breaks open the ‘pods’ inside) then cut it in half and just squeeze into the already prepared juice. I’d usually use about ½ a lime per person…depends on your taste of course ;) Hope that helps…

AAaaaaaaaaaaand…a question from ME to YOU…
One lovely lady just asked me for a raw recipe for pickling summer squash or paddy pan…not being much of a ‘pickler’ myself and having frankly never HEARD of ‘paddy pan’, I have no recipes to share, but if you DO, please either leave a comment here or drop me a line at angela@rawreform.com and I’ll pass the juicies on and post here too, for all to yummy up… thanks ;)

Visionaries...

In case you didn’t see my little announcement yet, I’m really excited to be participating in the Raw Food World Summit, which is kicking off on August the 7th and features 12 top speakers on raw foods, sharing their stuff, tele-conference style…yeeeeee-HAH ;)
You can sign up for FREE, or invest in the other packages on offer, HERE.

On July the 26th I had:

1 litre water
500ml celery/cucumber/apple juice
½ tbsp greener grasses powder
1 litre water
chia seeds with blended apples, goji berries, raisins, maca and lucuma powder
400ml dandelion tea
bag of cherries
1 persimmon
1 litre water
spinach, romaine, avo, dulse, raw cauliflower curry, waldorf salad, flax crackers
1 litre water
400ml orange/cinnamon tea

Somebody left a comment recently asking about drinking tea…yes, I LOVE it – especially in cold places and simple teas like peppermint or dandelion that I feel offer some function too (i.e. aiding digestion). I tend to put hot water on the tea, then drink it much later when it’s cooled down OR add cold water sooner, to be able to drink it sooner – I do not enjoy drinking anything hot anymore…sun teas are my favourite way of making tea as a raw foodie – though England seems to be…hmmmmmm…rather severely clenched in sun-shortage right now…wow…it’s like someone left the tap on since I left last summer ;) Thanks to all of you who braved the winds though and turned out for Matt Monarch’s raw food lecture in London on Friday night – it was FUN to see so many enthusiastic faces here, brightening up grey London…hurray :) Thanks for a great gathering :)

on July the 27th I had:

1 litre water
1 chopped apple and a handful of blackberries
600ml green juice with apple and fennel
bowl of chia seeds soaked in apple juice with lucuma powder, goji berries, dried mulberries and maca
400ml dandelion tea
1 litre water
3 tbsps bee pollen mixed with hemp seeds and cardamom powder
1 litre water
6 persimmons, 1 fig and some incredible raw chocolate ;)
1 litre water

...and so, from one Aquarian to another...the moon is about to be full in Aquarius – this Sunday or Monday, depending which continent you’re on ;)
Lisa Dale Miller describes this as the full moon of ‘the visionary’ or ‘guru’. This is:

“A night dedicated to thanking all our teachers, in every walk of life. An Aquarius Full Moon asks us to especially honor unique and revolutionary teachers: those who vision far out beyond the rest of us. Those dedicated to upliftment, freedom, utopianism and humanitarianism.

This is a night to step into your own sense of teaching and service by breaking down the attraction to focusing only on your own life. Selfless giving to others is a true Aquarian vision of working for the collective upliftment of all sentient beings. This is the Full Moon for involvement in something larger than you.

This is the Full Moon to honor freedom, idealism, humanitarianism, egalitarianism, and the revolutionary impulse toward reform, without causing harm to anyone. Aquarius is the impulse to raise-up everyone and leave no one behind. So in service to these calls to action, become responsible and find out what is really happening around you. Get involved in your community, volunteer your time, and raise awareness in your neighborhood.”

WOW…yummy…a powerful time to step into your OWN power and shimmy on into the light with ALL your brothers and sisters :) You can read the whole of Lisa Dale Miller’s piece HERE.

Enjoy,

Wizards...

So, today was the ‘Day out of Time’ in the 13 moon calendar…that seemed to fit my day very appropriately, as I flew through the air/time/space/fields from Canada to England…feeling pretty disembodied still right now, fuzzy and a little jet-lagged…so…I can really resonate with having a ‘day out of time’… ;)
We’re leaving the year of the ‘Red Magnetic Skywalker’ and entering the ‘White Lunar Wizard’. Today was a day in between worlds...here’s a message someone sent me about this shift:

“The Day out of Time is always synchronized with July 25th.
This day is an extremely powerful opportunity for global focus with
planetary kin who are dedicated to establishing a New Time of Peace on Earth and the Creative Emergence of Galactic Culture and Planet Art for the Benefit of All Beings!”

Hope you had a great one and may your time with the White Lunar Wizard be joyful and abundant ;)

On July the 24th I had:

1.5 litres water
1 litre ‘garden’ juice – cabbage, celery, cucumber, bell pepper, beet greens, sunflower greens, lime juice
big bowl of yummy green smoothie – whole head of romaine with 2 bananas and 3 peaches, with whole goji berries swirled in for chewing
1 litre water
1 litre watermelon juice
kale salad – kale, sunflower greens, baby greens, avo, lemon juice, tomatoes, dulse
1 banana
1 litre water

This was posted by Mark on the Juice Feaster’s Google Group today – he’s on Day 80 of his current Juice Feast – CONGRATULATIONS Mark and thanks for sharing these beautiful words (in response to a request for guidance…;)

“Well, I can't really tell you what to do; I can only tell you what I've done. Don't make too much of it. Don't think of it as anything too special. Think of it as business as usual. Don't think of it in terms of 92 days. 92 days is nothing. It's a heartbeat. Of course, thinking of it in terms of not eating seems like a long time. So don't think about 92 days. Take it one day at a time. Your job on day 5 is to get to day 6 and that is all. Tomorrow your job will be to get to day 7. There is no such thing as 92 days anyway, There is only now. Now you are juicing. In 92 days it will now again. It's always now. Don't get too proud of yourself. Realize that you can fall flat at anytime, so never be too proud. Be humble. Think that if I can do this, anybody can.”

Lovely…you can visit the Google Group to connect with others about Juice Feasting HERE.

On July the 25th I had:

1.5 litres water
1 box blueberries
1 litre water
2 tbsp ‘greener grasses’ powder
500ml water
3 golden kiwis
500ml water
meal of avo/dulse/lemon/spinach/greens and seeds
2 squares of raw food bar
400ml orange/cinnamon tea
1 litre water

PUBLIC SERVICE REMINDER:

Matt Monarch is giving his only UK raw food lecture this year, this Friday, the 27th, in Camden, London. This looks set to be a fantastic event, with people coming together from all over the UK to hear the hairy Aquarian speak… ;) The doors open at 7pm and you can see more details for the event HERE

Getting Connected...

If you could ask me ONE question, what would it be…???

I have an exciting event to announce – on Sunday August the 5th at 6pm EST, I will be doing a FREE, LIVE teleconference call with Chef Dan of Quintessence in New York…FUN ;) You can listen in free from wherever you are in the world by phone or through the internet and the really cool thing is that you can enter questions in a special box on that page, which Dan will ask me during the call…– the details are all on this special page HERE...so get your thinking mittens on and drop us a line… ;)

On July the 22nd I had:

1.5 litres water
bag of cherries
1 litre green juice with apple and lemon
½ box baby spinach leaves
1 litre water
small glass of aloe vera juice
exciting broccoli salad with shredded cabbage, sliced peppers and zucchini, dulse and a garlic/basil/avo dressing
Square of pistachio halvah cake left over from Live raw restaurant with cacao balls
500ml peppermint tea
1 litre water

Hmmmm…apparently some of you have been trying to send emails to the ‘@rawreform.com’ email addresses the last few days and they’ve been bouncing straightbackatcha…apologies…we are in the process of shifting servers at the moment and some mischevious jiggles seem to have been rippling through the site as a result…hopefully all is suitably de-wobbled now for your emailing pleasure...you can also let us know via the alternative address 'rawreform at hotmail dot com' if all else seems hopeless... ;)

On July the 23rd I had:

1.5 litres water
800ml green juice with apple and ginger
3.5 big apricots
bowl of chia soaked in rejuvelac and aloe vera juice with a mashed banana, lucuma powder, mulberries, figs, maca and spirulina
cacao balls
1 litre water
800ml watermelon juice and a few chunks of watermelon flesh
stunning kale salad with tomatoes, avo, dulse, lemon juice and arugula
1 litre water
500ml peppermint tea

It was shown to me, in meditation this morning, the bizarre point that many people do not even ONCE during the course of a day TOUCH THE EARTH WITH THEIR SKIN…no WONDER so many in our societies seem ‘disconnected’…just think about it…we walk on concrete and tarmac, sit in cars or on bikes, wear layers of fabric or plastics to separate our feet from the ground…we are literally out of physical connection with the planet…I would love to encourage that first thing in the morning, ESPECIALLY in the summertime when it’s warm, you go outside and connect to the earth with your physical body – stand barefoot, or lay on the ground and greet the sun, breathe deep, listen to the birds and other sounds, do some yummy-feeling stretches, set your intentions for the day, give gratitude, smile and do what you can for those few moments to keep your attention in the present – not in the past, not in the future…just right there, on your little patch of ground, right NOW ;) If you’ve just woken from a night of sleep, consider that you’ve been away from this physical body and this physical planet for a number of hours – take this little opportunity to ground yourself back in here on waking – you’re about to spend the next 16 or so hours here, most likely, so how about starting it off with a smile and a gentle, loving reconnection…? Enjoy ;)

Joy and Clarity...

Three current elements of delight:

1. For the next 48 hours (until Wednesday the 25th) you can still get 20% off all RawReform purchases, using the coupon code ‘celebrate’. Just place your items in the shopping cart, enter the code and hit ‘SUBMIT’ to claim your discount. :)

2. I love how simple washing dishes is, in a house of raw foodists. I just love it. Water is really all you need…even raw fats just slide away with hot water – no need for scrubbing and hassle…no dish-washing soap even, most of the time…it’s so simple…

3. The Raw ‘Favourite Things’ video on YouTube has been watched more than 3000 times in its first 2 weeks…nice… :O

On July the 20th I had:

1.5 litres water
bowl of fresh raspberries, straight from the garden; a few strawberries
1 litre green juice with carrot
bowl of soaked dried figs blended with hemp seeds, with dried mulberries as a garnish
small glass of rejuvelac with aloe juice, green powder and probiotic powder
shot of straight dandelion juice
1 litre watermelon juice
small bowl of cherries
½ avo with ½ box of baby spinach, ½ handful of dulse, ½ a lime and some sauerkraut
5 raw chocolate truffles
1 litre water

The meal in the middle of the day today, with hemp seeds and figs was WONDERFUL. I’d never tried that before – just blend soaked dried figs with the soak water and hemp seeds and that’s it – an incredible power-house of a meal…and GREAT for eating on the road too, as you can carry both without refrigeration. (Of course, the hemp seeds will be happier for longer if you DO refrigerate them…if that’s a big concern for you, I’d suggest using sesame instead…which would be a PHENOMENAL calcium-hit of a meal…) If you also add green powder to that blend, you’d have such a ‘complete meal’ in terms of nutrients…wow…

On July the 21st I had:

1.5 litres water
1 litre green juice with apple and ginger
box of cherries
small bowl of chia seeds soaked in aloe juice and rejuvelac, mixed with lucuma powder and dried mulberries
1 litre water
½ a durian
500ml water
an incredible shared platter of amazing desserts at Live raw restaurant in Toronto – YUMM – E3 Live and coconut ice cream, beautiful, smooth cheesecake, pistachio halvah and one of the greatest raw desserts I’ve ever tried – a chunk of cake made with a nut base, then a melt-in-the-mouth layer of almond butter creamy yumminess, topped with crunchy ‘grawnola’ – amazing…
1 litre water

Here’s a wonderful quote that spoke to me recently:

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone.
-- D. Thoreau

The longer I spend here as a human of late, the more I desire to ‘re-wild’, back away from ‘material’ things and commit to a life more deeply in tune with the land and growing my own food…that is what REALLY speaks to me in this life…
As a morbidly obese, unhappy ‘cooked’ person, I often found I was unclear about what I really wanted in this life and body…there was little clarity to my choices, whether that was in terms of the food I ate or the activities I participated in or the company I kept – I felt open to all and everything, with little sense of focus. I was a real 'jill of all trades and mistress of none' ;) This had the advantage of setting me up with a broad range of experience in life and yet, in many ways, felt very unfulfilling and ‘vague’…unstructured…now I feel deeply blessed these days, to experience feeling so much on my true path and to witness it unfold deeper and deeper into the truth of what I REALLY want now…that is all it really seems anything comes down to in the end – just making a choice…if I make clear choices which I feel great about, am enjoying and seem to serve others as well along the way, then I definitely feel ‘rich’ and have no issues leaving other things aside…
I like the way this writer put it: “our lives are enriched only when we commit ourselves to a deeper level of involvement, and to the few, rather than the many.” Nice…

Are you in...?

Thanks for all the entries that have been coming in so far for the current RawReform contest – some great tips are being shared on Raw Social Issues… :) If you want to be in the draw for the prize of a FREE $10 gift certificate from RawVeganBooks.com, to use on anything in their online store, just email in YOUR answer to the following question, to angela@rawreform.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

‘What strategy would you recommend for raw foodies to handle mainstream social functions like dinner parties and business meetings?’

Social issues, as we all know, is one of the most challenging aspects of being raw for most people. So, let’s share some fabulous tips and make all our lives a little easier ;) The winner will be drawn at random from all the entries at the start of August and announced in the next RawReform newsletter...(which you can subscribe to HERE if you don’t already receive it ;)

on July the 18th I had:

2 litres water
600ml rejuvelac
2 peaches
5 apricots
yummy yellow zucchini (courgette) pasta with explosively delicious pesto sauce, greens and dulse
500ml green juice with apple and fennel
box of strawberries with little glass of avocado ‘key-lime-mousse’
cacao balls
500ml rejuvelac
2 litres water

How many people do you know who are completely, truly 100% raw…? We were talking about this tonight and it began to seem like there aren’t really MANY people making this choice in our societies…interesting…humans seem so peculiar in that regard…and it seems so ironic to me – eating totally raw is truly all about simplicity at the core of it…yet for so many people it seems to represent a complicated, daunting, mysterious way of life…we really are so enveloped in our relationships with food, far beyond the simple function of it as physical fuel…does this all sound familiar to YOU? Have you ever in fact tried spending a whole day eating only raw foods, or...a week? …or a month? If these are new frontiers for you, I’d love to encourage you to explore and enjoy them…it's all about the experiences, baby ;)

On July the 19th I had:

2 litres water
500ml green juice with apple and fennel
bag of cherries
bowl of chia soaked in rejuvelac with lucuma powder, a mashed banana, spirulina, dulse flakes and chopped dried figs
500ml peppermint tea
500ml water
1 litre watermelon juice
small bowl kale salad with avo/dulse/tomatoes/lemon juice/olives
5 dried figs
500ml peppermint tea
500ml water

This Saturday, the 21st, Matt Monarch and myself will be speaking in Toronto, Ontario – hurray – I’m excited to experience a bit of this ‘cultural-melting-pot’ city…whereas over the ocean in Blighty, the Raw Revolution is going to be rocking Oxford…yep…that big ol’ city of traditions is going back to the roots with two raw foodie lads - Joe and Phil – handing out info and samples at a stall in the city centre…do drop by to join in the fun and show them some big raw love if you’re around that area… ;)

Following my water ramblings of yesterday, this question came in today from another reader, Sonia:

“re the water question, i am always thirsty, i drink loads of water, and i have been tested, i am not diabetic, Why is this?”

Thanks for your question, Sonia. Well, I assume you are asking about why you're always thirsty, rather than why you're not diabetic... ;)
It is tough for me to give you a good answer about this however, without seeing you and knowing much more about your current situation and eating habits. For a start, how much is 'loads' of water for you? Are you eating 100% raw? If not, what else are you eating? How long have you been on a raw path? What was your health like before that? Do you exercise/sweat much? Are you eating many WATER-RICH foods? Do you live/work with air conditioning? Are you getting many salty foods into your body, that 'hold' the water? Are you taking care of your colon to help eliminate old waste matter that's being released? There are SO many factors at play here... MOST people in our societies are chronically dehydrated, so drinking 'a lot' of water for most people is something useful, rather than an issue...(see the book 'You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty' for more info.) My guidance for you at this point though would be to check in with a HOLISTIC practitioner of some kind if this really concerns you - someone who will take a look at the whole picture with you, not just an isolated part of your health/body, like blood pressure or smthg...I'd suggest a homoeopath or naturopath or better yet, someone who is trained in a number of alternative fields and can give you a good, broad perspective...all best wishes to you with this ;)

I spoke tonight in Barrie, Ontario, with a lovely little group of people and will speak again this Saturday in Toronto on Saturday with Matt Monarch – details HERE – hope to see you there if you're around... ;)

All love,
Angela. xxx

FIRE IT UP, BABY ;)

Alright everyone, I hope as you read this you are either READY to ‘Fire the Grid' on the morning of the 17th of July OR you already did it and had a FABULOUS time ;)

For those unfamiliar with ‘Fire the Grid’, basically the idea is very simple… at the allotted time, everyone, worldwide, is invited to enjoy ‘firing up the grid’ of the planet with joy, love and appreciation ;)

The three recommended methods to ‘Fire the Grid’ are:

1. Random, spontaneous acts of kindness.
2. Enjoying whatever it is that you feel happy doing, and noticing that happiness. Feeling grateful for this joy.
3. Listening to uplifting music. Filling your space with uplifting images, colors and music…

You can watch an Intro Video about the whole thing HERE on YouTube.

The times for participation are (among others) 11.11am GMT, 12.11pm UK time, 7.11am EST, 4.11am PST.

ENJOY – for ALL our sakes ;)

On July the 16th I had:

1.5 litres water
small glass of green smoothie with rejuvelac
handful of cherries
500ml water
romaine lettuce, dulse and sunflower sprouts with sunflower seed cheese blended with rejuvelac, cayenne and cumin – yummm
1.5 litres water
700ml green juice with apple and fennel
handful of gorgeous raspberries
500ml water
500ml green smoothie – bananas/spinach/apple pulp/drop of honey/rejuvelac with goji berries swirled in…yummmmm…
500ml water

Another reader’s question from the comments:

‘…how long do you wait after eating to drink water? I notice you drink A LOT of water, and I want to drink more water myself but i was told to wait 3 hours after eating. and if i'm only eating between 11 and 7 its difficult to get 3 meals in and lots of water and juices, or so it seems.’

Yes, I drink a LOT of water – I LOVE it – it feels vital to me – especially first thing in the morning – that’s when I usually take in the biggest amount in one go – before I take anything else in. If I don’t have at LEAST a litre at that point, I don’t feel set-up well for the rest of the day. AFTER eating, I like to ideally wait abt an hour before drinking water again – this varies though, depending on what it was I ate. If I had a simple mono-meal of fruits for example, that will be digested in around 30mins and then I’ll feel fine to drink again…a heavier meal though – like a big salad with some fats etc – is a different situation – I’d wait at LEAST an hour usually before drinking water again, so as not to dilute the stomach acid…it may be longer, depending on how much it feels like I have digested the food…usually, whenever I DO drink water, I drink quite a lot in one go – like 500ml or more, so that in the space of a day I get at least about 4 litres/1 gallon in – that feels optimal to me at this point…
Hope that helps… ;)

All love,
Angela. xxx

Life just keeps on getting sweeter here in the company of this beautiful, vibrant raw family…the way they speak with each other, the things they share, the openness, caring, genuine contact and appreciation…it’s SO wonderful to see and experience such a healthy, joyful family unit in action…and YOU can even see them in action too if you like ;) They made a DVD documentary about their way of life called ‘Raising Children Raises Us’ – which you can see more about HERE. It was shown at the Raw Film Festie in Hollywood earlier this year…mum of the family, Shannon, also wrote an accompanying article of the same name, which you can see HERE on the main RawReform site – beautiful people ;) I feel so blessed to be learning here alongside them and grateful that there are people here enjoying this way of life and modelling it for others like this...how blessed we ALL are for that...these are truly the raw wonder-kids of a new generation ;)

This comment was just left after my last post here:

“...I dont think i'm digesting food well enough. I feel "backed up". I eat lots of fruit and veggies and have added flax oil to my smoothies and juices I'm chewing my food carfully and drinking pleanty of water and even taking e-3 live. I'm at a very healthy weight, but I feel like I need a good internal cleaning done i'm only able to "go" once a day on average and Its never enough. I've been considering taking colon cleansing pills, but I'm really confused as to weather this is a good idea at all and if I should just stick to eating more fruits and veggies instead. do you have any advice?”

Well, I certainly have some guidance, yes…do some colon cleansing. I would recommend you immediately go and get a series of colonics with a registered colon hydrotherapist – preferably 5-6 to start with. This is a KEY element for people to handle detox well – keeping up with the waste that is being released into your system. Most of us have DECADES of old junk stored in our cells…going raw is like going into a life-long cleanse – like hitting the ‘clean out cells NOW’ button and the body starts to throw out all kind of waste. The colon can quickly get overwhelmed if you’re still EATING and so it’s dealing with the usual flow of waste, PLUS all the old waste too, that you’re trying to suddenly eliminate now…there is SO much to say about all this and what it really comes down to is this: you can go raw and NOT do colon cleansing if you like…you can do that…you’re just not going to have anywhere NEAR as easy time of it as if you did some colon cleansing…I recommend too that you get hold of a good enema bag to do ‘maintenance’ cleansing at home. There are fabulous 6-quart bags you can get now, from HERE. These huge bags work almost as well as having a professional colonic – they’re quite amazing for getting all the way round the colon, clearing everything out.
I would also recommend you read something like Dr Norman Walker’s ‘Colon Health’ book – HERE. As he so wonderfully puts it:

"Not to cleanse the colon is like having the entire garbage collecting staff in your city go on strike for days on end."
Dr. Norman Walker, D. SC., PhD.

Colon health is integral to the health of your whole body and not to be underestimated...so yes, please, by all means, TAKE CARE OF YOUR COLON ;)

The Fox, The Bees and The Moon...

Fox News published an article covering my transformation and raw foods today – hurray :) Great to see a more ‘mainstream’ media outlet like this embracing the raw food message – Alissa Cohen, Natalia Rose and I all contributed to the piece and I feel it turned out well as a good little intro piece for people to the idea of raw foods – YAY – every little bit helps in spreading this message of health and healing :) You can see the piece here:

On July the 12th I had:

*1.5 litres water
*tiny gorgeous glass of green smoothie
*bowl of luscious raw ‘granola’ – soaked sprouted oats, blended with coconut butter, lemon juice, berries, cinnamon and…I don’t know what else – a WHOLE lot of love…to make a YUMMY smooth creamy breakfast cereal, topped with banana slices, hemp seeds and fresh lavender…WOW…how blessed am I…??? ;)
*salad of spinach, romaine and dulse with a sunflower seed and garlic dressing, with a separate sunflower seed kale wrap
*1.5 litres water
*4 peaches
*700ml peppermint tea
*3 frozen cherries – yummmmmmmm :)
*400ml celery/cucumber/romaine/fennel/apple juice
*bowl of chia seeds with goji berries, apple, spirulina, maca and honey
*1 banana with a tbsp coconut butter
*1 litre water

Ok, time to answer a question from one of YOU delightful little popsicles reading this…Michelle asked:

“Can you tell me why you use bee pollen because I cant find anything online about that. Also why MSM? I read you used that somewhere else.”

Hmmmm…yes…I use bee pollen mainly because I like it – I love the taste and texture of it and that it is such a ‘wonder-food’ in terms of the nutrients…it’s phenomenal in terms of the amino acids - the PROTEIN (hallelujah…;), the B-vitamins, mineral range, enzymes…those little nuggets are incredible power-houses…and it gives me a great energy boost…I love that it’s not fatty, but feels dense and nourishing and enriching…one of my favourite ways to eat it is just to shake it up with an equal amount of hemp seeds and eat it as a snack – PHENOMENAL nutrient intake and feels pretty light and easy to digest too…love it…my favourite kind of bee pollen is FRESH and still MOIST - not stuff that's been dried a lot - the stuff you get fresh like that just meeeelllllllllts in your mouth and is amazing to me...and yes, I'd love to state myself as a 'raw bee-gan' again...or...whatever word you feel comfortable with in place of 'vegan' - bee pollen and honey are the two products that come from animals that I enjoy...
As for MSMhmmmmmmmmmmmdoesn’t really interest me so much INTERNALLY these days – I used it for a while when Juice Feasting…mostly it just tastes unpleasantly bitter to me though and I prefer to use it externally, on my skin in lotions like THIS, rather than drinking or eating it…it definitely brings extraordinary results for SOME people though – there are many testimonies of people dealing with joint issues like arthritis and so on finding tremendous relief with it. You know what they say…everything ain’t for everybody… ;) Here’s what I wrote about MSM in 'A Juice Feaster’s Handbook':

"MSM – (methyl sulphonyl methane) – a sulphur compound that occurs naturally in every cell of our bodies and is necessary to produce collagen/connective tissue. MSM gives flexibility, tone and strength to the skin, hair and nails. Taken as a powder/capsules, MSM is excellent for restoring elasticity and flexibility to skin and joints and for healing scar tissue. Try taking ½ tbsp a day of the powder and increase if you feel it is beneficial to you."

on July the 13th I had:

1.5 litres water
1 litre green juice with apple
1 mango
500ml water
spinach/romaine/hemp seeds/dulse/lemon juice
apple pulp mixed with raisins, cinnamon, maca and honey
little glass of banana/greens smoothie
1 banana
1 apple
1 litre water
3 tbsps hemp seed and bee pollen mixed
1 litre water
green salad with tahini/garlic/lemon dressing, nori sheets and flax crackers
500ml water

Hope you had a great Friday the 13th… ;) Tomorrow, July 14th is the New Moon in Cancer. This is the New Moon of love, carrying the idea of fully opening to the possibility of living each day as a loving, heartful, mindful being. This is what Astrologer Lisa Dale Miller has to say about it:

“This is a New Moon to take responsibility for our inner emotional condition, without all the drama.
This is the best New Moon to work on your home life and the quality of interaction that goes on in your family. We all need time to stop and really appreciate our loved ones: to fully embrace them, look deeply into their eyes, allowing the heart to soar in the recognition of oneness. This is also a great New Moon to engage in healing work around your own childhood/family system issues.
This is the right New Moon to begin letting go of old defense and protection mechanisms that may be doing you, and your relationships, more harm than good.
Cancer is the zodiacal archetypal Mother. This is a great New Moon to begin learning about the Sacred Feminine and incorporating this wisdom into your daily life and by extension, into our world. The Way of the Sacred Feminine is one of love, caring, understanding, compassion, peace and joy.
Open your heart and take care of your emotional life by committing to an insistence on love and kindness in all your interactions. This is the way of Cancer!”

With all love to you all,

Going with the flow...

I like this picture of Maria - it looks to me like she's doing the Five Tibetan Rites ;)
I’ve been getting so much lovely feedback from y’all about the ‘Favourite Things’ song I just posted to YouTube – thanks so much ;) I especially like this comment on the YouTube space from ‘HerbGardener00’:

“how much cacao did you have before you filmed this? i love it!”

LOL…I actually hadn’t had any cacao before we filmed this…or before I wrote the lyrics either…it all just flowed by itself, promise ;)

On July the 10th I had:

1.5 litres water
500ml green juice with apple and ginger
bowl of chia seeds soaked in apple juice with apple pulp stirred back in, lucuma, maca, goji berries and raw honey
1 litre water
small cup of raw green soup with a big strip of dulse and piece of flax bread
1 litre water
300ml rejuvelac
small cup of mango parfait
big green salad with dulse strips and a dressing made from red pepper, leftover pumpkin seed spread, rejuvelac, salt and garlic
1.5 litres water

I moved house again…now I am immersed in the wonderland of a raw family raising two beautiful young boys. Never have I heard two BOYS speak and play together so lovingly, generously and openly – they are absolutely delightful, as are their parents of course. It’s fun too to try out tastes of someone ELSE’s raw food – that’s always so exciting ;) …different flavours and textures and ideas…I love it…it’s also so rewarding for me to learn from someone who is a raw food mother and who is in the home daily, making food and directing a lot of love and care in that direction. Taking time to make more complex dishes and prepare things is not so high on my agenda at this time in life and it’s so interesting for me to catch these glimpses into the world of someone who IS living that life…what a blessing…and how blessed we ALL are that there are people out there like this family, giving a huge amount of time, care and loving attention to raising incredibly vibrant, loving children to nourish this world…WOW…

On July the 11th I had:

1.5 litres water
2 tbsps bee pollen
small cup of banana/kale green smoothie
2 apples and a small handful of dulse strips
baby spinach and romaine with dulse, nori and a dressing made from ground seeds, aloe vera juice, garlic, cayenne, lemon juice and salt
1.5 litres water
300ml peppermint tea
1 litre celery/cucumber/romaine/fennel/apple juice
apple pulp mixed with maca, raisins and honey
small bowl of green salad with tomatoes and sunflower dressing
1 litre water

ALRIGHT. Ok. I give in. As un-thrilled as I am in general about quantities in regards to recipes, so many of you have emailed asking for quantities to make the lucuma shortbread recipe that I am going to do my best to give you some guidelines. I’ve said it before though and I’ll say it again now – JUST USE WHAT WORKS. Raw foods aren’t like cooked/processed foods in terms of consistent flavours – they can vary wildly – your lucuma powder might be totally different to mine…you might have really mild, runny honey and I have super-strong and thick manuka…just try it out and taste it and see if you like it –if you don’t, play some more…raw food can be FUN in this way – for me it’s about experimenting, not rigid weighing and measuring of ingredients…
OK, that little rant having been…‘runt’…(???), here’s a rough guideline:

Raw Shortbread:

1/2 cup ground almonds
1-2 tbsp raw honey
2 tbsp lucuma powder

Alright, try that out and let me know if it works for you…Enjoy ;)

WOW - the Wild Organic Way

Yesterday I ate at the wonderful WOW raw food restaurant in Guelph, Ontario. WOW stands for ‘Wild Organic Way’…and what a marvellous place it is. Run by beautiful shiny beings Carin and Thomas, this totally organic, raw restaurant has been open for nearly two years – quite some feat I would think in this fairly little town of Guelph…considering raw restaurants come and go pretty quickly even in the raw food ‘meccas’ of LA and NYC.
It’s clear there’s a very loving and loyal clientele at this place though and deservedly so – it’s beautiful. From the vibrant décor with many green plants, to the sublime food and super-friendly service – this place is such a treat. I had a delicious raw combo platter and a slice of their chocolate ‘dream pie’, which was literally given to Carin via a dream one night and is luscious (see pics ;) It also turned out that the universe had been playing one of its interesting games again, as just the DAY before, Carin had come across my ‘prune-eating-video’ on the internet and had been learning all about my story and work…then in I walked to the restaurant, the very next day ;) Beautiful how it all unfolds…You can see the contact details for WOW under ‘Guelph’ HERE.

On July the 8th I had:

1.5 litres water
1 litre rejuvelac
big bowl of raspberries
sample platter of quesadilla, falafel and taco with baby greens
slice of raw chocolate ‘dream pie’
1.5 litres water
500ml rejuvelac
2tbsp fresh bee pollen
2 litres watermelon juice

I ran somewhere in the region of 4-5kms this evening. WOW indeed…this, for me, was a great feeling. I have been running these last weeks in a local park, each time running to the next bench in a series of benches, before I turn around and come back. Well, I finally made it all the way to the end of the whole track and back, running the whole time. I was so pleased…I LOVE being able to run again after years of inertia and building up my stamina like this – it feels so empowering to me…I always feel snake-like in my spine after a good jog – like it does amazing things for my alignment...

On July the 9th I had:

1.5 litres water
500ml rejuvelac
2 litres watermelon juice
½ medium papaya
salad of baby spinach, sunflower greens, red pepper, dulse and sauerkraut with flax crackers and an AMAZING dressing I made with ground sunflower seeds, fresh basil, garlic, rejuvelac and salt1 litre water
500ml green juice with apple
big bunch of grapes and handful of freshly-foraged wild blackberries – YUMMMMMMMMMM :)
1.5 litres water

The Kitchen's Alive With The Sound Of Music...

As some of you know, I've done a fair amount of singing in my time...and I love a bit of it...I also have a particular penchant for musicals...well, I had FUN today…watch below to see why…

…yep… ;) and here are the lyrics for those who didn’t quite follow…

Green juice with apples
And hemp seeds with pollen
Spirooli slicers and melons by the dozen
Banana ice cream that’s good for me,
These are a few of my favourite things…

Magical durian parties…oh, WOW…
Loved up on maca and blissed out on cacao
People who don’t ask ‘where do you get protein?’
These are a few of my favourite things…

When your stomach hurts,
When your colon aches,
‘cos you’re eating SAD
Simply remember to eat more raw foods and then you won’t feel SO bad…

Feeling so vibrant from all the live enzymes,
Foraging wild foods which buzz up my third eye
Composting, rebounding and sweating,
These are a few of my favourite things…

When your stomach hurts,
When your colon aches,
‘cos you’re eating SAD
Simply remember to eat more raw foods and then you won’t feel SO bad…

On July the 7th I had:

1.5 litres water
500ml rejuvelac
big bowl of cherries
small salad of spinach, sunflower greens and sauerkraut with flax crackers and an experimental dressing of coconut butter, red pepper, olives and rejuvelac…
1 litre water
500ml rejuvelac
½ box blueberries
600ml green juice with apple
1 litre smoothie – banana/romaine/cherry/spirulina
500ml water

Ooooo, I’m going to be speaking in Barrie in Ontario on July the 17th – just announced – see the RawReform Events Calendar HERE for more info…

I do hope you’ll be enjoying YOUR favourite raw things today too ;)

The Tale of Smurfette and the Wheat Berries...

Today I took time out and went into the yummy-crazy world of Niagara Falls…WOW…what a mixture…incredible, beautiful, awe-inspiring natural wonder meets all kinds of plastic neon tourist-orientated flotsam…and everyone is dressed like smurfs ;) lol…hundreds and hundreds of people…quite amazing…so, we joined the blue plastic army and boarded the Maid of the Mist…it was SOOOOOOO beautiful to see the falls so close…I was here perhaps 10 years ago and don’t recall having gone so near to the water…the boat goes right into the ‘horseshoe’ of the falls and waits there a while…looking up, you are surrounded by cascading, thundering walls of water on all sides…we were DRENCHED from the spray (except for the covering of the smurf uniforms of course) and the water felt surprisingly clean and refreshing…I was howling like a banshee…I loved it :) I also happened to be eating a box of cherries at the time, which got cleansed in the mighty shower from Niagara too…wOOOOOOoooo…what a place…just magnificent…

On July the 5th I had:

1 litre water
300ml rejuvelac
½ medium papaya
500ml water
spinach/sunflower greens/sauerkraut salad with hemp seed/flax oil/salt mixture, in nori wraps
500ml water
700ml cucumber/celery/fennel/lime juice
1 litre banana/romaine/spirulina smoothie with whole gojis thrown in for chewability ;)
500ml water

OK, so I started making rejuvelac…I’d never done it before and am so far enjoying it. For those not familiar, rejuvelac is a drink made by fermenting wheat berries. It was one of Wiggie’s favourites and I’m quite into the dear old gal’s writings at the moment, so decided to brew up a batch for myself. On first SMELL, I was not taken with it…to be honest, it smelt like old socks…or mouldy cheese…hmmm…and YET, when I started to drink it, it is actually very mild and quite pleasant. It’s also outrageously packed with nutrients and live enzymes. It’s rich in vitamins B and E, has more vitamin C than orange juice, valuable friendly bacteria, proteins and enzymes, helps digestion and balances the intestinal flora. Wow...
So now I’m drinking it every day. I’m rather proud of myself in fact for having made my first batch. One of the less-than-thrilling aspects of living on the road, for me, is that doing things like taking the time to sprout things or make my own crackers, etc, doesn’t tend to happen…I have been stopped in one place for a few weeks now though, so it seemed like an ideal chance to try smthg like this…I’d recommend it…like many things, it’s SO easy when you know how to do it, very inexpensive and will give you masses of interesting-smelling liquid to nurture your intestinal flora with ;) See below for instructions on how to make some yourself and ENJOY…

On July the 6th I had:

1 litre water
400ml rejuvelac
700ml cucumber/celery/fennel/lime juice
½ an AMAZING pineapple
400ml rejuvelac
spinach/sunflower greens/sauerkraut salad with hemp seed/flax oil/salt mixture, in nori wraps
500ml water
about 2lbs of amazing local cherries, some doused in water from Niagara Falls :O
500ml water
500ml rejuvelac
bowl of watermelon flesh
500ml water

Here’s how I made my rejuvelac. I soaked a load of soft wheat berries overnight for abt 8 hours (probably about a cup, I’d guess - I got them organic from a bulk section in a health food shop). Then the next morning I drained that soak water away.
I then sprouted the wheat berries for 2 days, rinsing them twice a day.
After that, I covered them with about 2 litres of water in glass jars with the tops covered with nut milk bags secured with rubber bands. I left them to ferment for 2 days, before my first batch was ready. I poured that off and started drinking it and storing it in the fridge.
I covered the wheat berries with another two litres of water and left them again, this time for a day. I poured of that batch into the container in the fridge, then repeated the same process for the last batch of 2 litres. So, I used the same berries 3 times, to get about 6 litres or 1.5 gallons of rejuvelac…and tomorrow I’ll throw the wheat berries out for the birdies to munch…what a great process…
If you want to investigate more about Wiggie and her fermented ways, HERE’s a selection of her books for your perusal…

Ooooo, happy 7/7/7 to everyone for Saturday ;) Looks set to be a yummy lucky day…ENJOY…

Wild Things...

Hellooooooo, I do hope all you Americans have been enjoying some wonderful (raw) Independence Day celebrations today ;)
I’ve had a fun time – I just gave a raw food talk here tonight in Canada for the first time in abt 5 weeks and it was great to speak again with a large crowd…I feel so immersed in raw foodism these days, I forget how many people are still new to this path – it’s exciting to share with people for whom this is all totally fresh…wow...it's amazing to think that we've become so accustomed in our societies to consuming denatured, processed things, that many humans struggle to even conceive of eating 'only' raw foods...how curious we are as a species...sometimes I look at the essence of what a lot of my work these days entails and it seems a little absurd - all it really is, after all, is telling people to eat food that comes directly from nature...I don't believe such events happen among cheetah or antelope populations, for example... ;) they do not seem to need meetings to remind each other what is most beneficial to them to eat...yet we humans seem to have wandered so far from the 'wild' path that we can definitely use a reminder and some support here and there...

On July the 4th I had:

1.5 litres water
600ml cucumber/celery/fennel/lemon juice
box of raspberries
500ml water
bowl of soaked chia seed with bananas, lucuma, goji berries, pinch of salt
500ml water
box of cherries
3 tbsp hemp seed and bee pollen
box of strawberries
bunch of red grapes
1 litre water

I am SO into red foods at the moment…look at this list today – raspberries, gojis, cherries, strawberries, red grapes…full of iron, energising, grounding –plus these are all low glycemic, aside from the grapes…I LOVE it…yesterday I also forgot to say that I foraged some fresh berries on a hike - mmmmmm...some very yummy different red and black berries...plus some wild greens that had my third eye chakra POUNDING...wow...it blows me away everytime - the difference in the power I feel from fresh-picked wild foods, compared to shop bought greens...completely different voltage ;)
One reader – Dana – sent in some great feedback abt the ‘toilet talk’ from yesterday: in her bathroom she has a sign that says: "Do not flush unless you have a SOLID reason" and she uses ‘a double thickness plastic zip-loc bag filled with water as a "hippo".’ NICE…thanks for sharing, Dana ;)

Toilet Talk...

Ok, there have been so many requests for the elusive 5TH DAY video of the liver cleanse I did earlier this year, that I’m going to list the full set of links here for all to enjoy. The 5th video wouldn’t fit onto YouTube for some reason – too big file or smthg – which is why it ended up on Google instead – sorry for confusion ;)
(Wow…amazing to think that this liver cleanse was 3 months ago now…this year really feels exceptionally fast to me…)

and a reminder, the protocol I used was Andreas Moritz's spectacularly-named 'The Amazing Liver and Gall Bladder Cleanse'...ENJOY ;)

On June the 2nd I had:

1.5 litres water
800ml green juicebox of raspberries
soaked chia seed with blended soaked prunes, lucuma, banana, spirulina and goji berries
2 litres water
8 apricots
1 casaba melon
1 litre water
bowl of baby spinach with sauerkraut
500ml water

I’ve stopped flushing the toilet. LOL…I’m sorry, that’s probably a bit more information than some of you were expecting…but I’m happy to share about this…I once saw a sign that said

‘if it’s yellow, let it mellow; if it’s brown, flush it down…’

and that’s what I’ve been following of late…I like it because it means a LOT less water is used daily in this house. Another great thing people can use of course is ‘hippos’ – bags that sit in your toilet cistern and prevent so much water being used with each flush…you can get those free often from water conservancy places – in the UK you used to be able to get them from CAT
I recall Wolfie describing urine as ‘sacred’ at one point when I heard him speak last year and that it’s a great gift to share it with other plants and so on outside…I love that…I don’t often choose to share in this way in urban settings however…so, for now, the mellowing of the yellow is my favourite eco-approach ;) (…thanks…)

On June the 3rd I had:

1.5 litres water
1.2 litres watermelon juice
1 litre green smoothie – bananas, romaine, spirulina, water with goji berries thrown in for magical-chewability…
500ml water
2tbsp fresh bee pollen
bunch of red grapes
500ml water
piece of raw ‘rye’ bread with sauerkraut, no-bean hummus, spinach
bowl of watermelon flesh (yummmmmmmmmm)
500ml water

Jubilant Juices...

WOH there, juicy ladies ;) Thank you SOOO much for all the emails that came in this weekend from those of you interested in connecting with my friend in California for Juice Feast buddying. She is very thankful for all your responses and now has a buddy partner lined up. For those of you who may also be looking for someone to buddy with, please take a look at the Juice Feasting Google Group page HERE where you can connect with others…

On July the 1st I had:

1.5 litres water
bag of cherries
soaked chia seed mixed with lucuma powder, mashed bananas, sliced down raw choc treats, pinch of salt
500ml peppermint tea
2 litres water
800ml cucumber/celery/fennel/lemon juice
4 ‘mango nectarines’ (hmmmm ;)
nori wraps filled with ½ avo, sauerkraut, spinach leaves, cumin, lime juice, salt
2 litres water

I tried another raw food I’d never had before today – ‘mango nectarines’ – look like nectarines, yet are the colour of mangoes…and taste like…hmmm, well, nectarines, really…I’d seen these in a local shop here for some weeks and was happy to have satisfied my curiousity at least by finally trying them, if not so much my taste buds…;) I came to the conclusion that any fresh produce whose name has ‘TM’ next to it on the label is likely to be a little bit suspicious…

I was also delighted to discover that replacing the usual apple in my juice today with fresh lemon juice worked just as well for me in terms of taste…NICE :) and the extraordinary thing was that the crazy canine composter who lives here still ate the pulp, dispelling for me the idea that he was only eating the juice pulp ‘cos it had smthg sweet in it…wow…he really astounds me…who else would eat celery/cucumber/fennel pulp for dinner…?

Happy Canada Day, everyone – it’s been all fireworks and big-band spectaculars here tonight – yummy ;)
