How Much do YOU Chew...?

We were out walking in nature recently and I was struck by the realisation that so many of the plants we were walking past are most likely fantastic food for humans, yet we don't even recognise them as such because we've never had any modelling for eating that way...we can of course take cautious, intuitive and/or educated 'guesses' at what might work for us as food – it just struck me as very odd in comparison to other creatures that we have very little idea what suits us as food out there...I imagine that butterflies, grasshoppers or otters are seldom found scratching their heads in the wild, wondering what to eat – they just seem to know or get natural modelling of what to consume, from their wild kin...whereas most humans in western societies seem to get modelling of how to go to a supermarket and buy cans/boxes/plastic packages...most of us humans are chronically disconnected from nature and this little observation of my own disconnection from what I could potentially eat out in the forest/meadows really underscored this for me...more foraging for the Stokes–Monarch, please ;)

on July the 23rd I loved:

1 quart water
1.5 cups goji water with Marine Phytoplankton
2 cups greeeen juice: celery, cucumber, spinach, carrot tops, ginger, lemon
big bowl of blueberries with almond butter
3 cups water
2 cups water with marine phytoplankton, 25 chlorella 'nuts'
fresh fruits: plum, few cherries/grapes, blueberries with tahini
3 cups water

While we're on the subject of the contrasts between wild animals and most humans, I got a very interesting little link in my inbox yesterday all about chewing...now, those of you who have heard me give a talk will know that I often speak about the importance of chewing our food very thoroughly as a key to vibrant health and that most people seem to not chew very much at all (more like inhale ;)...
Well, it seems one researcher, Richard Wrangham, went off to closely study our friends the chimps in Tanzania and imitate their lifestyle and one of the main contrasts he noted was the LARGE amount of time apes pass daily chewing their food. In the article it states that the average person in 'civilised' western societies chews food for around 36 minutes a day or 5% of their time, whereas to match the chimps' chew rate, we'd be chewing more like 42% of our time, or around 5 hours a day... ;O WOW...
Chewing raw food really thoroughly is KEY for accessing the nutrients and assimilating better...you can read all about the 'power' of raw food and the importance of chewing in the classic old raw food text 'Raw Food and Health' by Dr. St Louis Estes...
I think this is smthg that is overlooked repeatedly by all people, raw foodies or not – and it seems it is especially key for those of us who choose to eat raw, so this is one reason why I speak about it so often... ;)
Now, Mr. Wrangham seems to not at all be in favour of eating raw, which is of course his own bag'o'beans to rattle – I do like the chewing stats shared in that article though, so that's why I wanted to share this and I hope it gives you smthg to 'chew' on... ;)

on July the 24th I was blessed to enjoy:

1 quart water
pot of pineapple chunks
romaine wraps stuffed with avocado, dulse, tomato, mixed sprouts, sauerkraut, kim chee
3 cups water
1.5 cups goji water with marine phytoplankton
bowl of blueberries with almond butter
3 cups water

on July the 25th I savoured:

1 quart water
1.5 cups green smoothie from Mr. Tim Van Orden – plum/banana/spinach – yummmmmmm :)
1.5 cups goji water with marine phytoplankton

...and now for something completely different - how abt a little light entertainment, dear folks? The USA is a biiiggggg ol' land I am noticing, as we travel about all over this continent...I also note that there seem to be some very 'interesting' laws from state to state... The charmingly named site 'DumbLaws.com' lists some of the more 'colourful' laws of this land...here are ten of my favourites from their site - enjoy ;)

Alabama: It is illegal to wear a fake moustache that causes laughter in church.
Arkansas: Alligators may not be kept in bathtubs.
California: Women may not drive in a house coat.
Iowa: One-armed piano players must perform for free.
Minnesota: It is illegal to sleep naked.
Oklahoma: People who make “ugly faces” at dogs may be fined and/or jailed.
Pennsylvania: It it illegal to sleep on top of a refrigerator outdoors.
South Dakota: It is illegal to lie down and fall asleep in a cheese factory.
West Virginia: Whistling underwater is prohibited.
Wyoming: You may not take a picture of a rabbit from January to April without an official permit.

...??? I have no idea about the current validity of any of these laws - I know they get me gigglin' though- enjoy...(and stop making ugly faces at dogs - you've been warned... ;)

Living Lightly :)

Our 30–Day Weight Loss Programme has undergone a mini make–over and is now known as the 'Live Lightly Plan' (formerly The RevitaLive Plan) – LOVE it :)
The programme was launched 6 months ago and has already helped over 2,000 people release excess weight, get onto a more consistent raw food path and access greater health. Here are some of the comments we've had from participants so far:

“I joined three days ago and am loving the plan!! Love the menus! I'm noticing more clarity in my life and I feel more vibrant. I've lost 5 lbs in three days. Thank you thank you for the plan and for your example.”
Traci

Brilliant program. Love the videos...enjoying this immensely. Thank you!”
Lynn

“Thank you so much for this wonderful program. I’ve been eating raw for 5 days now and I already lost 10 pounds. Is that possible?! I cannot believe how fast it’s going and how good I feel. I feel like a new person!
This is coming from someone who has been a compulsive overeater all her life. I don't feel like I need to overeat anymore.”

Alexandra

The 30–day programme includes daily instructional videos, four full weeks of recipes and meal planners from Solla (choose either totally raw or intermediate, or mix'n'match), a 250 page exercise manual, access to the Inner Circle online health community, full instructions for an optional mid–programme juice cleanse and a 60–minute in–depth interview with myself on healing emotional eating patterns with a raw food lifestyle.
The investment for the whole 30–Day Programme is $67 – less than the cost of a bagel or cappuccino or raw chocolate bar per day ;) Everything is delivered to you online.
There is no specific start or finish date for this programme, which means you can start whenever you like and finish whenever you like, with the full support of the worldwide ‘Inner Circle’ community to tap into at all times, 24/7/365, for connections and guidance.

You can see more about The Live Lightly Plan and sign up HERE.

As you can see in that video above, we went to see Beyonce in concert a couple of nights ago – it was a surprise trip that Mr. Monarch took me on in Chicago – WOW ;O
I feel that Beyonce is one of most phenomenal contemporary entertainers out there – she and Alicia Keys are two of my musical heroines :) Beyonce's stage presence and voice are truly powerful, dynamic and beautiful...I loved and admired so many aspects of her presentation, although I'm not sure I'll be incorporating any of these things into my own stage presentations anytime soon...I somehow doubt that sequined leotards, explosive glitter sprayers and wind machines constantly blowing to keep my hair in motion would go over so well at raw food talks – lol ;)
That she is 27 years old and has apparently been named the fourth most influential celebrity in the world blows me away...this gal is an amazing powerhouse of energy :) I also love that she has an all–female band on stage with her, bigging up the goddess energy... At the end of the night she shared a very moving tribute to the late–great Mr. Michael Jackson, with her current single 'Halo'...I doubt there was a dry eye in the house...thank you Beyonce for sharing your passion, talent and beautiful flow...wow, can you imagine what would happen if this goddess went raw...??? ;O

All love and blissful recreation,
Ms. StoM. xxx

OoOoOooooo lalalalaaaaaaaaa, we have a new French translation available for you :) The lovely Colette over in France has just completed the translation of the Raw Union Wedding Recipes E–book, to add to my other three e–books she has already translated: How to go Raw For Weight Loss, Revealing the Physical Changes and A Juice Feaster's Handbook. I'm not going to attempt to give those titles in French here, as it will surely result in a mess of accented vowels, curly 'c's and impossible consonant clusters...so, I'll leave the French to Colette and please click HERE to access her fabulous translations ;)

May all dynamic flow and joy be with you,

Accessing What You Want... ;)

Here's a handy little tip sent in by the delightful Ricki in Arizona, to help you identify organic produce items in supermarkets from their stickers:

* Any sticker that begins with the number '9' and contains five digits in total denotes the produce is ORGANIC.

* Any sticker that begins with the number '3' or '4' and has ONLY four numbers total means CONVENTIONAL, NOT ORGANIC.

* Any sticker that begins with the number '8' shows that food is GENETICALLY MODIFIED!

Eeeeeek, very good to know – hope that helps y'all out there if you weren't aware of that little system already...I'm not sure if this system spreads up into Canada too, or beyond the USA – it's at least apparently valid here though ;) Ricki suggests it's a good way to quickly check that the items you pick up are genuinely organic and haven't been accidentally misplaced in the produce displays ;)

on July the 12th I enjoyed:

1 quart water
tub of pineapple chunks
2 cups water
little pot of hemp seeds and bee pollen mixed together, with 2 curry powerwrap sticks
2 cups water
2 cups greeeeeeeeeen juice
another chunk of pineapple
1 quart water

Another useful–looking new resource that was brought to my attention recently is the Neighborrow.com site – have you seen that? It's basically a site where people can connect to swap/share things together, either in local areas or through virtual communities...e.g. you want to shampoo your carpets or dig a hole in your garden and don't have the necessary equipment? Check out if there's anyone in your 'Neighborrow–hood' to borrow things from instead of buying/renting machines. You can even join 'virtual' groups based around shared interests, e.g. perhaps a raw food group can be created to share books/dvds/dried foods/other resources...fun, non?

on July the 13th I had:

1 quart water
3 cups watermelon/pineapple juice
2 cups greeeeeeen juice: celery, kale, chard, green lettuce, apple, ginger
bowl of YUMMMMMY raw elixir ice cream :)
3 cups water
clamshell of blueberries with creamy almond butter
1 quart water

on July the 14th I had:

1 quart water
1 cup goji berry soak water
2 cups greeeen juice: celery, cucumber, spinach, zucchini, couple of carrots
big bowl of elixir ice cream topped with bee pollen – YUMMMMM :)
1 quart water
30 chlorella 'nuts'
1 quart water

Oooooo la la, that cheeky Mr. M is up to his tricks again...as you may be aware, Dr. Wolfe recently launched his explosive new 'Longevity Now' programme, which sold out last Sunday night. Well, Mr. M actually bought up over 100 of the programme sets and has around 40 of them left for sale right now...as far as we know, these are the only copies still available, so get in there now if you'd love to invest in this ext–raw–dinary piece of work, learning all about building immunity, reversing debilitating conditions and potentially lengthening out your stay in your amazing physical body...you can click HERE to access Mr. M's secret stash ;)
ENJOY :)

All love,

See me Singing at Raw Union :)

Wow…it’s three weeks today since Mr. M and I were wedded at the Raw Union festie...we’re feeling so blessed in our lives together, as our journey continues to deepen and expand :) I wanted to send some more shout–outs today to some of the wonderful people who helped co–create our wedding event...

Three weeks later my henna has almost totally gone now, the memories will definitely last though ;) Thank you, lovelies :)

*Liv – my wedding dress was made by our dear friend Liv in Ojai, California. Liv is a master seamstress who has been making custom clothes since 1968 ;O. I chose the silk, we worked out the pattern between us and she brought it to life – love it :) She even incorporated a piece of cloth from my grandmother Lily's shawl into the dress, as the under–bust sash. Thank you, lovely Liv :)

...and the WINNER of the Raw Food Chia Pet Contest is...

ALRIGHTY, the results of last month’s RawReform Giveaway Contest are in and I’m excited to announce the results of who YOU all think would make the best raw food chia pet...ahEM, drum roll pleeeeeeeaaaaaaaase...

*In 3rd place, with his curly–headed ways, is Mr. Kevin Gianni, with 9% of the votes.

*In 2nd place, with his tousled lion’s mane, is Mr. Matthew Monarch, with 20% of the votes

*...and in 1st place, heading up the raw food chia pet party is the corkscrew–headed bishop of cacao himself, Dr. David Avocado Noni Propolis Phytoplankton Wolfe, with 30% of the votes.

(: YAAAAAAAY :)

I’m delighted to say that the winner of the chia seed goodies is the super–talented Eranah, who even sent in this fantastic mock–up version of what a Wolfie chia head might look like – BEAUTIFUL :) Thanks Eranah – your chia goodies are shimmying their way across the country to you in celebration right now ;)
This was such a fun contest :) Thanks for all the answers sent in, which included an eclectic range of suggestions, from Annmarie Gianni or Jonny 5 (lol) to Ann Wigmore, Anthony the Raw Model, Mike Adams and even...me ;)
My personal favourite suggestion though for a raw chia pet model was sent in by a few people and would be a ‘face–off’ model of the durian eating contest between Mr. M and Wolfie, with a durian between their heads – LOL ;)
I would truly LOVE to see any of these figurines made in pottery, if anyone would love to make them professionally – we could even sell them through our webstores ;) So, let us know if you’re a talented raw potter with a passion for chia pets and we can maybe create some classic memo–raw–bilia for all the raw family ;)

On July the 4th I had:

1 quart water
1 cup coconut water
2 cups ‘Green Potion’ ice cream at Erewhon, followed by shared ‘Cookie Dough Ice Cream’

2 cups hemp milk with cardamom, cinnamon, stevia, maca, pinch of salt
25 chlorella nuts
2 Tbsp bee pollen
2 cups energy soup with 2 flax crackers, little handful of yacon slices
3 cups water

Yesterday I was doing an interview and I really enjoyed one of the questions asked – I thought I’d re–post it here for y’all, if you’d like a little extra insight into the patterns of a Stokes–Monarch:

Q: What is in your purse at this very moment?
A: Great question ;) Now that is going to be quite a long answer ;) lol...I have a rather large, abundant bag of tricks (and I'm not even a mother yet ;)... Here we go: Rescue Remedy, seven sacred stones, my pendulum, my timepiece, lip balm, bottle of water, wallet, camera, my organiser (stuffed full of papers and business cards ;), bag of bee pollen, chlorella tablets, yacon slices, ReddRox powder, hairclips, rubber bands, 2 pegs, Tooth Swish, pair of earplugs, MANY pens, MSM lotion, spoons, binoculars, tissues. Quite an eclectic mix ;)

I like that question...this is actually smthg I generally find very endearing about women – the little bags of STUFF they carry around with them everywhere – I can remember being in rooms full of women at meetings and glancing around with a swelling heart as I noticed the little sac of goodies slumped on the floor next to each Goddess – I love women ;) So, what’s in YOUR bag, baby...?

on July the 5th I had:

1 quart water
3 cups watermelon juice
3 cups coconut water/GreenerGrasses powder/Marine Phytoplankton
2 cups home–made yummy raw elixir ice cream :) Tasted like TOFFEE – so good – see the video of me making it below.
3 cups water
30 chlorella ‘nuts’
3 durian pods and a clamshell of blueberries
1 quart water

Mmmmmm, so I’ve become uber–excited about raw elixir ice creams after we were hanging out with Mr. Truth Calkins at the Tonic Bar in Erewhon...the ice cream I made myself yesterday was OFF.THE.HOOOOOOOK good :) It tasted like TOFFEE and I’m not really sure why yet – I was just adding stuff to the blender and it turned out SOOOOOOOOOOO good :))) Mr. M caught the whole thing on camera, so you can re–create your own ice cream wonders with whatever goodies YOU have around – see the video below and ENJOY :)
YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM…

Food Independence Day ;)

Ooooo, looks like there’s some interesting research afoot down at Gabriel Cousen’s Tree of Life Centre... They’re studying the health of vegan, live food babies and they’d love for you to participate in the survey if you have a child aged from birth to five years who is eating a vegan live food diet. The researchers intend to share the results to help support other parents who’d love to raise their children this way.
You can access the survey and read the full participant requirements list by clicking HERE. Please feel free to also pass this info on to anyone else you think may be willing/able to participate – they’re looking for another 100–200 participants at present ;)
I look forward to seeing the results ;)

Soooo…happy Independence Day tomorrow to all those in the USA ;) I am excited to see that over at the Kitchen Gardeners site, they’ve declared Food Independence Day. The idea is to declare ‘food independence’, by sourcing the ingredients for any holiday meals as ‘locally, sustainably and deliciously as possible’…love it ;)
You can check out the site at FoodIndependenceDay.org, where you can even stick a pin in the map to mark out where YOU will be sourcing local foods tomorrow ;) They also have a cool–looking ‘Why I’m a Victory Grower’ video contest you can enter – YUMMY :)

All brightest blessings to you and those everywhere who are growing food, foraging and connecting directly with gaia :)
All love,
