water of a young coconut
decadent picnic with Mr. M featuring frozen durian and donut holes from Au Lac - WOW ;)
3 cups water

One reader, Kristina, recently sent me *such* a sweet message about her experiences reading the "Anastasia" book that I asked if I could share her message here - she agreed...so here we go:

"I ordered the Anastasia book from your 32% off special recently (thank you for that financial gift) and began reading it a few days ago. I knew it would affect me because you speak of it so often with such inspiring energy, and it truly is having an affect on me. Not the kind I thought though. I thought I would read it jubilantly and delight in every word. But I find it puts me in quiet contemplation of many things on many levels and it seems almost as if an energetic change is happening on a vibrational level that I won't fully understand for many weeks, months or even years. I find that it makes me more centered in my meditations which is something I have been striving for on my own for a while and not achieved.
Well, I just wanted to share this with you. I will pass the book onto others and hopefully they will get the benefit that I am and we can all share a better connection and experience life in more profound ways.
Many Blessings to You and Matt.
  LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
  Kristina

NICE...I love this ;) Thanks for sharing, Kristina ;) ...and if *you*, dear reader, have also been contemplating reading the Anastasia book(s), maybe now is the time to dive in and start exploring - profound shifts may await you ;) We have the whole series of these remarkable books available HERE...enjoy ;)

What is the first thing *you* notice about people...?

Someone recently asked me the following interesting 10 questions...I thought y'all might enjoy seeing my answers as well...and perhaps asking them of someone in YOUR life too...

*If you had one word to describe yourself, what would you choose? Chameleon.
*What is your middle name? Claire.
*Given a chance, would you bungee jump? NO, thank you ;)
*What is the first thing you notice about people? Their energy.
*Which is your most recent favorite song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDAicNrBIe8&NR ;)
*Which was the last movie you watched and liked? The Green Beautiful comes first to mind...
*Tell me about a favorite event of your childhood? Going berry picking at "pick your own" farms with my family :)
*What do you think you will be doing five years from now? Living in Ecuador, growing food, off the grid, smiling, singing, raising children in co-creative community - yeeeeeee-HAH ;)
*If you had to evacuate your house immediately, what is the one thing you would grab on the way out? Mr. Monarch ;)
*What is the oldest item you own? My body.

    ENJOY ;)

On August the 27th I loved:

    1 quart water
    3 cups organic watermelon juice
    3 cups greeeeeeeen juice
tsp marine phytoplankton powder sample - wow :)
fruit salad (cherries, blueberries, a peach), mixed with a little raw almond butter and acai powder :)
    2 cups water
    ½ cup coconut kefir
    1 cup water

Mmmmmm, "Miss Eco-Glam", Anna Rodgers from the UK, recently posted a sweet, in-depth review of Mr. Monarch's first book, "Raw Spirit" - this book has been out for seven or so years now I think and has sold many 1000s of copies...people seem to really appreciate the simple, clear and insightful info shared in this book on the raw lifestyle...we repeatedly hear people say that this slim little volume helped them to finally really get started with raw or take their raw journey to the next level...nice ;) See what Miss Eco-Glam thought about it all HERE - enjoy ;)

on August the 28th I enjoyed:

    1 quart water
    a peach and a plum
nori sheets stuffed with Sea Clear, avocado, lecithin powder, grated cucumber, sprouts, with samples of new flavoured seeds/crackers on the side...followed by 3tbsp acai powder :)
    2 cups water
    3 cups greeeeeeen juice
    1 cup water

If you're in the UK next weekend, or somewhere in that vicinity, you may love to know about two fabulous upcoming raw-friendly events, which are actually both being held next weekend... ;)

The "Eco-Skills Celebration" gathering runs from September 3rd-5th in West Sussex and is a fund-raising, non-profit celebration, sharing info on permaculture, growing your own food, beekeeping, herbal medicine, biodiesel, wild foods and much more...I would be there in a heartbeat if I was on the other side of the Atlantic ;) Interestingly, all proceeds will be going toward indigenous people in Ecuador...nice synchronicity... ;)
Tickets for the whole weekend run from £25 to £100, depending on what you are willing and able to contribute... Check out http://www.ecoskillscelebration.co.uk for all the info and to book your tickets - enjoy...I'll be there with you in spirit :)

On September the 4th, the "Raw & Wild Festival" will also be held at Plawhatch Farm in West Sussex (West Sussex is apparently the place to be that weekend ;) Plawhatch is a *delightful* old biodynamic farm where Mr. M and I often get produce when we're in England...WELL...they're hosting a FREE raw foodie-friendly one day festival on September the 4th from 10am to 4pm, featuring wild food walks; raw food demos and tasting, talks on raw and wild lifestyles, booths selling yummy treats, natural crafts, raw cafe and the farms' own organic produce shop...childrens' entertainment will be on offer too and volunteers are welcome to help with the day's activities...check out this link HERE for more info and...ENJOY :)

10 Ways to Share a Raw Food Message in YOUR Community :)

WOW...thanks to all of you who came out to play in Orange County last night for our first live talk back here in the USA - it was fun to meet you all :)
You can see the rest of our current talk schedule HERE if you'd love to come and join us somewhere along the line...we're now also offering a full day workshop at the event in Michigan ;)

For now though, I wanted to re-post here a little article from my newsletter this week, called:
"10 Ways to Share a Raw Food Message in YOUR Community" - enjoy :)

People often say that they feel isolated and socially awkward as raw foodies...yet we have so many wonderful raw resources and ways to connect these days, either through the internet or in person. I want to offer a list of ten suggestions today for ways to share a vibrant raw food message and lifestyle in YOUR community...

    1. Hold a Raw Food Potluck: in many areas, there are already raw potlucks organised - a great way to find out about these is via rawfood.meetup.com - check for *your* area to see if there's already something happening. If not, how about starting a gathering yourself? Even if the gathering involves just two or three people, that is a start - you will have experiences and recipes to share, you can watch, read or listen to raw info together and keep inviting more people to join you...consider posting a notice on local community boards to attract more attendees ;)

    2. Demo Booth: find a local fair of some kind in your area to attend and run a booth there giving out green smoothie samples, or any other raw samples you are drawn to share. Have some simple information about eating raw on display, sell tasty 'snack' items such as raw 'bliss balls', smoothies or whatever appeals to you...recommend resources for people to find out more - local potlucks, or online connections and so on...

    3. Organise a Farm Trip: organise a trip to a local organic farm with friends, families, local school children, or whichever kind of group you may have connections to - the idea is to get people out into nature and to connect more to where their food is coming from - this is especially great to enjoy with children. You might visit a farm where you can pick berries or fruits together, or gather salad veggies and prepare a salad or smoothies afterwards and so on. People will surely appreciate a day out in nature and eating farm-fresh raw food. If the farm has a CSA scheme, a trip like this might also help them to find more supporters for their production.

on August the 23rd I enjoyed:

    1 quart water
    3 cups watermelon/orange juice
    3 cups greeeeeeen/carrot juice
shared romaine/avo/seaweed/tomato salad with Mr. M, stuffed into nori sheets, with flax snack samples on the side - some GREAT new products :) Followed by an apple and 3 tbsp acai powder
    3 cups water

on August the 24th I loved:

    1 quart water
    1 quart greeeeeeeen/carrot juice
    a small papaya
meal of fresh figs with a little almond butter with Mr. M
    2 cups water
    3 tbsp acai powder
    1 cup water

    4. Give a Talk: this might sound like a scary suggestion to some of you, yet if you consider the life-changing *impact* that hearing a raw food talk could have on the lives of those around you, you might perhaps think again ;) You never know where a seed of inspiration planted may blossom into a remarkable new transfornation in someone's life...depending on your confidence, knowledge and experiences, you might choose to give a free talk, or ask for donations/a nominal fee...you might speak in front of children, cancer/diabetes groups, womens' groups, weight loss groups...whichever audience and platform you feel comfortable with...remember that you *do* have something to share that can be of immense value to other people, even if you feel shy or scared - there are so many ill and unhappy people in the world today - you could help to instigate a major shift in your area... ;)

    5. Do a Raw Food Recipe Demo: see if you can provide a 10-15 minute or so raw food recipe demo at any local gatherings. This might be a little stand at a local supermarket (perhaps green smoothies made right next to the produce department), it might be a demo at another related health-event in your area like a fun-run, a weight loss group gathering, a school sports event and so on - the opportunities could be endless with a little inspiration ;) Show a few simple recipes with easy-to-find ingredients and popular tastes, to get people started off, e.g. green smoothies, a raw soup, banana ice cream, raw apple pie and so on. Hand out samples if possible.

    6. Contact Local Press: if you choose to do any of these suggested activities, be sure to let your local newspaper/radio/press know about it, so that they have the opportunity to cover the story if they choose. Remember that the media is *always* looking for stories to fill their column-inches and airtime...why not help them fill those blanks with positive, uplifting stories of health, transformation and joy? :) Do not feel deterred if you contact them about one event and they choose not to cover it - journalists are usually working under a lot of pressure - you can always tell them about events as they arise and see if the timing fits in better the next time around ;)

    7. Show Raw Food DVDs: films can help spread messages in a rapid, easy-to-understand, inspiring way...film showings can help bring people together to discuss and share about a topic in a way that books and other media usually don't quite match. So, a great way to share the raw message in your community might be to hold a film night, or even a series of film nights, showing raw documentaries and other related material, e.g. "Raw for Life", "Simply Raw", "Supercharge Me", "Food Matters" and so on...you might find a local group who are already showing films and ask them to add these to the listings, you might show things at the local library, school hall, community centre or wherever it makes sense for you...

on August the 25th it was a kinda-odd intake day and I appreciated:

    1 quart water
    2 cups greeeeeeen/carrot juice
    a small papaya
meal of cherries/peaches/fresh figs with a little almond butter
    2 cups water
    4 tbsp spirulina crunchies
    4 tbsp spirulina crunchies
    3 cups water

on August the 26th I was blissed with:

    1 quart water
big shared meal at Au Lac with friends, involving all kinds of yumminess: durian/coconut shakes, freeze-dried durian/mangosteen, raw 'garlic bread', "De La Mamma" broccoli dish and donut holes - WOW ;O
    2 cups water
    1 cup coconut kefir
    2 cups water

    8. Organise an Exhibition: perhaps you will have the opportunity to post up an exhibition somewhere of information and pictures about raw food transformations. This might be something you can hang on the walls of a local library, school, alternative health practitioners' office, farmers' market booth or wherever you find an appropriate space...you could include before/after pictures, a simple explanation of 'why raw', event info, recommended reading/weblinks and so on...if you are able to be in attendance next to the exhibition, you might even like to have some books there to help show people, or simply answer questions...

    9. Organise a Big-Scale Event: if you *really* want to take things to the next level in your area, you could organise a big raw/'green'-lifestyle event, e.g. bring in a well-known raw speaker or chef to provide a presentation/workshop, or even organise a whole raw festival or retreat. This kind of activity would involve a lot more work and organisation and depending on where you live, there might also be a lot of thinking/co-ordination involved to encourage people to actually come along...free or low ticket prices are usually a help in this regard, plus *lots* of publicity angled well at different potential interest groups...

    10. Raw Britannia - our dear friend Shazzie has a *great* free ebook called "Raw Britannia" that you can download and take to local restaurants, to encourage them to include more raw dishes in their menus ;) The ebook can be downloaded for free from HERE - you are of course not limited to the recipe suggestions in this book either - you could take that as inspiration to compile a little list of raw recipes that *you* would love to have available at your local restaurant or deli...give it a try, it could work out for the benefit of all :) You could even offer to give a little free training to the chefs, to share raw kitchen skills and ensure the raw items actually make it to the menu; make it easy for them to co-operate with you on this... ;)

Well...I'm sure there are *so* many other delicious and delightful ways that you could think up to help spread the raw message in your area...and know that whatever you choose to give out to the world in terms of love, kindness, sharing and generosity will come back to you manifold over...there are *so* many people who could benefit from hearing this message and connecting more to a raw lifestyle...may you go forth and shine brightly :)

All blessings to you and all of your communities for your vibrant health and well-being...

    All love,

    Musical Inspirations :)

:) Last night was FUN - we went to see one of my favourite new bands, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, at the Sunset Junction Street Fair in LA. The concert was wonderful :)

We went backstage to meet Alex, the lead singer and to gift the band with our books, raw chocolates and other raw goodies...they seemed excited to receive these offerings and Alex even said that he was a raw foodie for half a year recently ;)
The massive 13-piece band played with a lot of joy and eclectic juiciness, sending balloons and inflatable balls sailing out over the audience from the stage, then bringing a minister onstage and inviting the entire audience to marry each other in a live massive group wedding ceremony ;) Later the whole crowd was welcomed to sit down on the floor along with lead singer Alex as he came down from the stage and sat in the centre of the crowd on the floor...it was a lot of fun ;)
It was also interesting to hear that just two years back, Alex and Jade, the co-founders of the band had been walking around this very festival as 'members of the public'...now here they were two years later headlining on the main stage - lol ;) LOVE it...in case you're not familiar with their work, here is a live version of my favourite song from them, "Home":

on August the 20th I enjoyed:

    1 quart water
    3 cups watermelon/orange juice
    3 cups greeeeeen juice
    1 tbsp spirulina crunchies
feast with Mr. M of fresh figs with almond butter and acai powder
    2 cups water

Mmmmm, I also have a new musical inspiration these last few days...his name is K'Naan and he is a sweet, soulful singer from Somalia who shares such delicate and insightful glimpses into growing up in a country torn by conflicts and beyond...I was introduced to his beautiful music via one reader, Colleen, who pointed me towards his classic "Tiny Desk" performance at NPR Music - check it out below...Apparently his song 'Wavin' Flag' was used as the theme to the World Cup recently, so perhaps you're familiar with his music from that...he also is apparently usually a hip-hop/rap artist, however this acoustic "Tiny Desk" performance is not presented in that way at all...I am especially in *love* with the bitter-sweet tribute song "Fatima" in the middle of this set - wow, there is such light in this man:

On the subject of the "Tiny Desk Concerts", there is such a *wealth* of talent and inspiration to explore in those YouTube videos - wow...if you haven't seen any of them, a tradition has been formed of various amazing artists cramming themselves and their bands into the tiny desk space of one of the workers at NPR Music...incredible live acoustic sets tend to result...here are three of my personal favourites (you can click through them all in the "Tiny Desk" section on the right of the NPR Music page on YouTube, HERE):

    ENJOY :)

on August the 21st I loved:

    2 cups greeeeeen juice
nori rolls stuffed with Sea Clear, avocado, cucumber, sprouts and sauerkraut, followed by 3 tbsp acai powder and sample of the spirulina 'cookies' from GoRaw
    2 cups water

on August the 22nd I appreciated:

    1 quart water
    3 cups greeeeeeen juice
samples of stone fruits at farmers' market, followed by meal of fresh fruit salad with a little almond butter
samples of crunchy seed snacks - yummy :)
    2 cups water
    2 cups greeeeeen juice

Would You Rather Be Peaceful or "Right"? ;)

Recently, one reader, Gregory, sent me a very interesting list for some 'alternative' uses for cucumbers, other than eating them (which we have been doing with joy almost every day recently ;)
Here were a few of my favourite cucumber tips from Gregory - I haven't tried to verify any of these yet - I think they're interesting though - lemme know if they work for you ;)

    * Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.
    * Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.
    * Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don't have enough time to polish your shoes? Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.
    * Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!
    * Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.
    * Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

    ENJOY ;)

LOVE, love, LOVE this passage I received by email recently from the Hazelden "Gift for Today" messaging service:

"In every conflict, ask, "Would I rather be peaceful or right?"

The power of detachment, the willingness to choose to be peaceful rather than make every conversation a battleground, is freedom at its very best. There is no mystery in how this is done. It's a decision any one of us can make as often as the opportunity to disagree comes up.

We don't really even have to hope for a more peaceful life. It's ours just as quickly as we make the choice to want something different in our daily interactions. Remember, those who come forth provide us with opportunities for practicing peace."

I *love* this concept of "would I rather be peaceful or 'right'?" ;) I've received the same message before via Abraham-Hicks too...I feel this is such a vital question to ask oneself in interactions with other humans... "would I rather be peaceful or 'right'?"
So many people seem to be remarkably attached to feeling that they are 'right' and/or have 'won' in a situation...yet who is really 'winning' anything, if someone in your context is feeling uncomfortable, unhappy or shamed?
I choose peace, for myself and those around me...what do you choose? ;)

All love and reverberations of delight,

Now, this whole event is also actually an inspiring fund-raiser, to help raise $10,000 for the Lower East Side Girls' Club in NYC, where some of the girls are using a bicycle-powered blender to share info, inspiration and classes with their peers about healthier eating. If you'd love to support this fundraising effort, you can donate $10 to the Believe in Green event and in return you'll receive full transcripts of the calls, access and info for a LIVE 10-day Green Smoothie Challenge, access to a contest to win a FREE Blendtec blender, plus other giveaways and bonuses - fun :)
100% of the money donated to this event is going to the girls at the Lower East Side Girls' Club, to help fund their nutrition and education programmes...SO, if you'd love to help out, click on over HERE to sign up for the event and register your $10 contribution, if you'd love to help... :)
