OOooOOOOooo, do you remember the very yummy 20% Off special deal that Teresa from eco-clothing company Texture gave us, a few months back...? WELL...she wants to extend this offer to y'all again :))) NICE :))) As I've mentioned many times before, I *love* Teresa's clothing - I pretty much live in the trousers and skirts that she makes and she has now also introduced some new beautiful soy tops, which she says are great in hot temperatures for keeping cool...and for those of you in cold climates right now, she also has a whole new collection of her lovely "Knit Mitts" to share - these are one of the items Texture is renowned for... The company, based in Washington state, has an inspiring intention of "zero waste", so they re-purpose leftover pieces of material from their other creations into their cosy, beautiful "Knit Mitts" - basically these are pairs of long fingerless gloves that loop over the thumb and stretch up the forearms, helping you to stay warm, while leaving your fingers free to paint, knit, eat, stroke ponies or whatever else you'd like to do in them ;)
The Knit Mitts come in a variety of colours and indeed, Teresa has lots of new colours on offer in her other lines too, like the skirts and trousers - check it all out at TextureClothing.com and be sure to use the coupon code "raw" as you check out, to receive 20% off your order - ENJOY :)))

on November the 22nd I was blissed with:

    1 quart water

1 quart greeeeeeeeeeeeen juice mixed with pineapple juice

bowl of papaya, coconut yoghurt, maca, carob, stevia, ashwaghanda
little bit of leftover cucumber salad with nori and fresh basil 'pesto', followed by a medjool date :)
    2 cups horchata tea
    1 cup water

Yesterday marked one year since Mr. M and I experienced a life-shifting car accident...I wrote a little piece in my newsletter this week about some of the lessons that we've drawn from that crash experience in the last year...in case you missed that article, here's a recap below:

Nov 23rd marked a year to the day since Mr. M and I experienced a pretty intense car crash in Pennsylvania, during which both cars involved were totalled...a year on from this perspective-shifting event, we feel extremely blessed to still be screen shot 2010-11-22 at 8.47.17 am.pnghere and manifesting the life of our dreams, day by day...coming out of the other side of an event like that relatively unharmed helped us to step deeper and deeper into *gratitude* for what we do get to experience here - it is truly such a blessing and adventure to be alive and play here in "Earth School", if we choose to see it that way of course... ;)

Our lives can seem so fragile, delicate and impermanent in the wake of shocking events like car crashes or other unexpected accidents - it can be a great reminder to truly relish every moment that we do have here, to offer thanks and gratitude, to greet each new day with excitement and anticipation...to do our very best in every moment to honour others, to offer compassion, to connect authentically and with love...for we never really know when our encounters with another may be the last...so, in remembrance of our perspective-shifting crash last year, I'd love to offer five suggestions here, inspired by others who experienced disturbing circumstances and chose lighter, more love-filled perspectives and lives for themselves as a result:

    1. Remain Open - Mahatma Gandhi suggested to "Live as if you were to die tomorgandhi.jpgrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." - choosing to embrace all of our experiences here with love, joy and curiousity and continuing to remain open to change, to new learning and experiences, despite whatever 'setbacks' or challenges we may perceive in life, can bring such richness to the tapestries of our lives.

    2. We Have A Choice In Every Moment - I recall the words of Viktor Frankl, author and holocaust survivor, who said: "Everything can be taken from a man or a woman but one thing: the last of human freedoms to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way." We *always* have a choice, in every moment, how we choose to act, to be, to perceive things, to interact with others...misery is a choice, self-pity is a choice, victim-hood is a choice...and no matter WHAT the circumstances going on around us, we can choose to keep the light burning in our hearts and stay in a space of love, if we are willing to do so...
    (continued below...)

on November the 23rd it was my Dad's birthday and I enjoyed:

    1 quart water
    1 quart watermelon/orange juice
1 quart greeeeeeeeeeeeen juice mixed with pineapple juice
bowl of papaya, coconut yoghurt, maca, carob, stevia, ashwaghanda
1 quart greeeeeeeeeeeeen juice mixed with pineapple juice
little bit of leftover cucumber salad with nori and fresh basil 'pesto', followed by a carob "brownie batter" yumpot :)
3 cups greeeeeeen juice mixed with pineapple juice
    1 cup water

on November the 24th I appreciated:

    1 quart water
    3 cups watermelon/orange juice
2 cups greeeeeeen smoothie: mango, greeeens from the garden, ice, a little honey
shared big zucchini pasta salad with fresh basil/cilantro sauce, flax crackers and a little avo on the side, followed by a mug of YUMMY fresh mint tea with vanilla stevia :)
mug of YUMMY fresh mint tea with vanilla stevia
    2 cups water

    3. Vulnerability is Our Greatest Defence - in the words of another holocaust writer, Anne Frank: "In the long run, the sharpest weapon of all is a kind and gentle spirit." and "Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart." If we are willing to remain in a space of love and gentleness towards others, despite how challenging any circumstances may appear to be...if we're willing to breathe deeper, speak with more compassion, open our hearts and hold the space wider and deeper with others, to honour that core of light in everyone we encounter, then we will surely see huge shifts in our lives and in the flow of everything around us...

    4. Don't Take Anything Personally (nod to Don Miguel Ruiz ;) - understanding that anything 'negative' that people might seem to bring towards you is a reflection of their own imbalances can be very liberating, rather than taking things personally and feeling easily battered around by the opinions and actions of others... Shaman wisdom-keeper Little Grandmother, who survived through a very abusive and disturbing upbringing to bring a message of such joy and light to the world, says "It is none of my business what other people think of me"...

    5. Always End With Love - I recall hearing a story of another concentration camp survivor, who had lived through so much and on recounting her experiences from those days, shared that one of her deepest regrets was that just before she and her little brother were separated at the entrance to the camp, she was angry with him for losing his shoe and was shouting at him. She never saw him again. The message she shares and that I take to heart here is: aim to always end things lovingly and with compassion in your communication with others, rather than walking away or even going to sleep shrouded in anger and frustrations...

I trust that you may find some extra inspiration in these words for your own journey - we are truly so blessed to be here, may you enjoy your choices and experiences ;)

    All love,

I *loved* this recent "Gift For Today"email message from Hazelden.org - this speaks very deeply to me:

    Going Easy

Go easy. You may have to push forward, but you don't have to push so hard. Go in gentleness, go in peace.

Do not be in so much of a hurry. At no day, no hour, no time are you required to do more than you can do in peace. Frantic behaviors and urgency are not the foundation for our new way of life.

Do not be in too much of a hurry to begin. Begin, but do not force the beginning if it is not time. Beginnings will arrive soon enough.

Enjoy and relish middles, the heart of the matter.

Do not be in too much of a hurry to finish. You may be almost done, but enjoy the final moments. Give yourself fully to those moments so that you may give and get all there is.

Let the pace flow naturally. Move forward. Start. Keep moving forward. Do it gently, though. Do it in peace. Cherish each moment.

Today, God, help me focus on a peaceful pace rather than a harried one. I will keep moving forward gently, not frantically. Help me let go of my need to be anxious, upset, and harried. Help me replace it with a need to be at peace and in harmony.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh, *deep sigh of relief* - thanks Hazelden ;)

Some words of wisdom from the ever-supportive daily "Gift for Today" emails from Hazelden...

"In recovery, we learn to focus on solving our problems. First, we make certain the problem is our problem. If it isn't, our problem is establishing boundaries. Then we seek the best solution. This may mean setting a goal, asking for help, gathering more information, taking an action, or letting go.

Face and solve today's problems. Don't worry needlessly about tomorrow's problems, because when they appear, we'll have the resources necessary to solve them."

    LOVE it, thanks Hazelden :)

    Win Wildcrafted Superfood Seeds :)

In case you didn't see the latest RawReform Newsletter over HERE, here's a recap of some of the info shared this week:

Many of you probably know already of Anthony Anderson, the "Raw Model" - did you know though that he just recently launched a line of Wildharvested Superfood Seeds to grow your very own superfoods at home for pennies...? :)

I LOVE this idea and product line...as you may know, Anthony has been nurturing his own permaculture kins domain/space of love in Minnesota for the last few years - you can check out videos of his place online...and over the years, Anthony came to the conclusion, just like us, that it seems to make a lot more sense to help grow and support wildharvested, sturdy plants, herbs and 'weeds', than to try to protect weaker domesticated plants that struggle with bugs, soil conditions, water access and many other factors. Dandelions for example are one of the BEST cleansers for our livers/blood...and they are super-resilient, popping up all over the place by themselves...compared to nurturing a romaine lettuce that ultimately has a lot less to offer medicinally, I know which we'd prefer to give garden space ;)

SO, Mr. Anderson, in his wisdom, went about collecting wild seeds for 13 different varieties of plant, focusing especially on perennials and packaging them up in super*sweet* little tins, for others to obtain and start growing in their own vicinities...LOVE it...these seeds are TROOPERS - just get them into soil and these guys will provide you with bountiful crops with very little further attention - they do not need baby-ing or protecting - they are STRONG and will bring your body valuable nourishment too - how fabulous :) I LOVE this project :))) Check out this video below with Anthony, explaining more about these new seeds:

This machine is *SO* cool - check out the 5 minute video below to see the potential this technology has to change the current game here...we are *SUPER*-excited about this machine - we want to get one here in Vilcabamba as soon as possible to help reclaim the plastic waste here and turn it into something people can use again, instead of throwing into landfills or burning, as is the usual case here at the moment...the video is in Japanese with English subtitles - enjoy and please share this message with others if you think this kind of machine could be useful in YOUR communities :)

    Are you Simply Raw...? ;)

Did you see Morgan Spurlock of "SuperSize Me" talking about raw food and healing yet? Interesting stuff - you can check out all the buzzzzzz, with over 780 comments already at SimplyRawVideos.com. I met Morgan back in 2004 or so, when SuperSize Me first came out and he and his wife came to Iceland to premier the film. I was SO excited to see the film and also kinda nervous to go and meet Mr. Spurlock ;)
My friend introduced me to Morgan and his wife Alex, explaining how I'd released over 160lbs by switching to raw food - it seemed at the time that they maybe weren't really sure what that meant...so it's fun for me now to see Morgan sharing his thoughts on the power of raw food for helping people to reverse debilitating health conditions ;) Today is the LAST day to catch the video with Morgan, before the next free video in this series goes up tomorrow (Thursday Nov 4th), featuring Dr. Joel Fuhrman...followed by interviews with David Wolfe and Mike Adams next week - FUN :)

Get in on the free action over at http://www.SimplyRawVideos.com - enjoy ;)

    1 quart water

    ½ a papaya
    3 cups watermelon/orange juice

I would like to comment on how happy I am to be living in a "kissing culture" here in Ecuador... ;) I like living in places where people regularly greet each other with kisses to the cheeks, hugs and squeezes...
Growing up in 'stiff-upper-lip' southern England, I did not experience much of this way of life...and now I really appreciate the warmth, sweetness and simple connectivity of this kind of culture. I remember being disturbed as a teenager to read in a newspaper about a study that had recorded how many times two people conversing in cafes in different countries would typically make "platonic" physical contact in the space of an hour - the stats went something like this: Italy: 84 times, Spain: 60 times, France: 46 times, England: 1 time...wow...an island nation of islands...
So I love being here now in a culture where kissing and hugging friends and aquaintances is the norm, rather than the exception...though perhaps things have changed a lot in the UK these days...I haven't been there much in recent years...I can imagine at least that among British Raw Foodies there is a yummy amount of connection and flow, even if the rest of the country might not be quite in sync yet... ;) Raw lifestyles tend to bring out the hugs in people ;)
I am also happy to say that my Spanish language skills seem to be slowly increasing weekly...I can definitely still understand much more than I can say...it's all moving along though, slowly-slowly...when we first got here, the long-lost Spanish part of my brain was getting completely confuzzled with my Icelandic, resulting in a bizarre "Spicelandic" torrent that made little sense to anyone here except me...although these two languages share a remarkably similar phonetic base, that's where the similarities end... ;) I'm happy to say the Spicelandic has now given way to a funky flow of Spanish with very little valid conjugation, yet a lot of good intentions... ;)
These days Spanish is apparently the second most widely spoken language in the world (after Chinese; English is now in third place...), so I'm very happy to be re-filling the Spanish-shaped hole in my brain with useful vocabulary and my cheeks with friendly kisses - Viva Ecuador ;)
