on October the 27th I was blissed with:

1 quart water
2 cups veggie juice: celery, fennel, spinach, carrot, ginger
2 Tbsp bee pollen, 2 Tbsp spirulina crunchies, an apple
bowl of energy soup with sauerkraut and spicy sunflower seeds, followed by a YUMMY slice of raw blueberry cheesecake :)
3 cups water
2 cups goji juice with marine phytoplankton, Merlin's Elixir and Etherium Gold
an apple with ½ a bag of Noniland Coconut Crisps and an apple–oat cookie
3 cups water

I've been doing a lot of 'mindless' work for the last week on the computer (repetitive stuff that doesn't require much of my actual attention) and when I'm doing tasks like this, I LOVE to listen to inspiring information. As a result I've been tuning into Raw Vegan Radio and also Raw Inspirations Radio – love them :) Both of these shows provide masses of free interviews with fascinating people in the raw foods movement and beyond – I'd recommend tuning in for some inspiration if you don't already and big KUDOS to Steve and Laura for providing these great services... :) What do YOU like to listen to at times like these? Any recommendations...?

two small apples with a big handful of spicy sunflower seeds

Three Russian Heroines... :)

Today I'd like to give some little updates on Three Russian Heroines in my life: Victoria Boutenko, Elena Tonetti and Anastasia :) I'm not quite sure yet why my karma seems to be so tied up with strong Russian female energies...yet these three women, between them, have had and continue to have a HUGE impact and influence on my life in the last years...(interestingly, apparently part of Mr. Monarch's pre–USA family history also traces back to Russia…hmmmmmmm...)

So, let's start with Victoria, as she was the first to come to my awareness, when my dear friend in Iceland lent me the Boutenko's 'Raw Family' book back in May 2002, which led to my 160lb weight release and dramatic life shift... next month, Victoria is going to be our special guest on The Raw Food World Radio Show :) YAY :) Mr. M is going to be interviewing her on the evening of November the 27th, from 6pm Pacific time, 9pm Eastern time. The call is LIVE and FREE and you can sign up for it HERE. Be aware that there is only room on the call for 1000 people, so get in there quick if you want to be on the call live ;)

ENJOY...

on October the 24th it was mi madre's b-day and I loved:

1 quart water
2 cups goji juice with Marine Phytoplankton, Merlin's Elixir and Etherium products
cupful of pomegrante/chia pudding with a few bites of apple
2 cups goji juice with Marine Phytoplankton, Merlin's Elixir and Etherium products
bowl of energy soup with spicy sunflower seeds and a little pine nut butter on the side, followed by more pomegranate/chia pudding – YUMMMM :)
2 cups water
2 cups green juice: celery, cucumber, spinach, zucchini, parsley, fresh garden greens, ginger, lemon
2 cups water

Next up is the lovely Elena from Birth Into Being, who we first met at the Raw Food Film Festival, back in 2007, where we were BLOWN AWAY by her amazing film 'Birth As We Know It' – the most perspective–altering documentary I have ever seen, all about conscious parenting.

Elena has a full schedule of workshops, film showings and more on her site HERE and I was very excited to see recently that someone called Jeanice from the Ringing Cedars/Anastasia Ning Community announced they will be doing a free radio call with Elena on November the 11th. Jeanice is starting up a new BlogTalkRadio channel dedicated to discussing natural pregnancy, childbirth, parenting and so on and Elena will be the first guest. The primary intention for the show is to share this valuable information with teenagers, yet all are welcome to join in – you can connect to the call HERE.

on October the 25th my dog would have 25 years old if he was still alive and I was adoring:

1 quart water
3 cups goji juice blended with camu powder
bowl of energy soup with spicy sunflower seeds & sauerkraut on the side, followed by a little hand–mixed shared yumpot bowl of: lucuma, mesquite, cinnamon, vanilla powders with pine nut butter and water
3 cups water
2 Tbsp spirulina crunchies, 2 Tbsp bee pollen
2 cups water

on October the 26th I was blissed with:

1 quart water
2 cups goji juice blended with Marine Phytoplankton, Merlin's Elixir and Etherium products
bowl of energy soup with olives and flax crackers on the side, followed by a little yumpot of chia–pomegranate pudding :)
1 quart water
2 cups goji juice shaken up with Marine Phytoplankton, Merlin's Elixir and Etherium products
3 Tbsp bee pollen, a couple of chunks of Rawnola and a little handful of dried yacon slices
3 cups water

...and on the subject of the Ringing Cedars, our final Russian role model of the day, yet certainly not the least impactful in my life, is dear si*star* Anastasia, out in the forest in Siberia. If you've hear me speak recently, most likely you'll have heard me sharing how much these books have influenced me – I started reading the series of nine books a couple of years ago and they have deeeeeply impacted my whole life perspective – in fact, if there was only ONE book I could recommend for anyone to read, it would be 'Anastasia' – these books are literally changing the face of the planet, without any advertising, it's all spread by word of mouth and deep, heart–felt passion to reconnect to the Earth – LOVE it :)

Recently, someone sent us the links to a little 50 minute documentary online, all about people who are taking ACTION on implementing the 'Anastasia' lifestyle, getting to the land, setting up their kins' domains, growing food, connecting to nature. It is available to watch on YouTube as a series of 5 videos, which you can see in the playlist HERE – enjoy ;)

I hope these lovely maidens help inspire YOU in some way along your journey too – they have definitely been powerful role models in my life :)

All love,
Ms. Stokes–Monarch. xxx

RawReform Spanish Translation Ready :)

OOoOoooo, exciting news - we have the first SPANISH translation of one of my e-books ready :) We've had SO many requests for Spanish versions over the years and the delightful Carla Blanes Cañero over in Europe has been so kind as to put her shiniest translator hat on and provide us with the Spanish version of my first book 'How to Go Raw For Weight Loss' or..."Reforma Cruda: Cómo pasarse a los crudos para perder peso" - yeeeeee-HAH :)
You can see the Spanish e-book HERE. We also have the French e-books HERE and many more translations are on their way from all over the place - we have Norwegian, Danish, German, Serbian, Polish and more in the works... :)
THANK YOU to all the amazing translators worldwide and please let any of your Spanish-speaking loved ones know that this first book is now ready, if they'd love to dive in... ;)

on October the 22nd I loved:

2 Tbsp bee pollen, ½ bag of Noniland coconut crisps, apple–oatmeal cookie

Mmmmm, so it's Halloween next week and here in Louisville, KY where we're talking today there are certainly some VERY elaborate decorated gardens with giant spiders, grave stones, skeletons and more...yet the scariest part of Halloween to me, as I'm sure many of you would agree, is all the refined sugars, crazy candies, cakes and sucrose blues most children (and many adults) go through at this time of year :(
Dr Ritamarie has a wonderful Halloween e–book all about the perils of standard Halloween 'treats' and packed instead with yummmmmmmy, fun, goulish RAW snacks, cookies, sweets and so on – YAY :) The good doctor is coming to the rescue ;) You can check out her book HERE – she just updated it for this year with new info, recipes and so on, so now you get your scary gloves and masks on and get busy in your kitchen with these healthy treats ;)

Ten Ways to Help Get Raw Food Into Reluctant People ;)

Here below is a fun little article I recently sent out in my newsletter that I thought y'all might enjoy here too...if you're not on my main RawReform newsletter list yet, you can sign up for that HERE...
------------------------

Ten Ways to Help Get Raw Food Into Reluctant People

Many of us experience challenges trying to help others to eat more healthily. Well, despair ye no longer, help is at hand... ;) Here are ten top tips for helping reluctant people eat more raw...

1. DESSERTS ;) Almost everyone loves desserts...You don't need to even tell anyone the dessert is raw - just put out a gorgeous raw cake or pie and watch everyone enjoy it. A fabulous tip is to add Irish Moss to the recipe as a thickening agent - that way you're also renegading minerals into them at the same time ;)

2. Gourmet Treats - people are often afraid that raw food will be 'boring'. Surprise your loved ones by learning a few special 'gourmet' raw dishes that will help make the food seem more familiar to them. Raw Pizza, Lasagna, Burgers and other dense, filling 'mock' dishes are great bridges into a raw lifestyle.

3. "Slowly, Slowly, Catch A Monkey" - trying to force other people around you to become raw very rarely seems to have positive, lasting results. A much more effective strategy seems to involve slowly, gently and consistently introducing new foods/recipes over time - slowly, slowly, respectfully allow each person's path to unfold at their own pace.

on October the 18th I enjoyed:

1 quart water
little cup of green smoothie and a little cup of goji juice blended with Marine Phytoplankton and Camu Powder
bowl of energy soup with some of my hand–pickled veggies and a few dehydrated onion crisps on the side, followed by a delicious little hand–blended yumpot
3 cups water
2 glasses of green juice
bowl of lemongrass/coconut soup followed by a little bowl of rawnola with almond milk :)
2 cups water

on October the 19th I loved:

1 quart water
3 cups greeeeeeeen juice: celery, dill, parsley, mixed sprouts
2 Tbsp bee pollen
2 cups energy soup with pickled veggies and spiced seeds on the side, followed by a delicious little hand–blended yumpot
3 cups water
3 cups goji juice blended with Marine Phytoplankton, Etherium Gold and Merlin's Elixir
bowl of Lydia's grawnola with homemade spicy–sweet almond milk ;)
3 cups water

4. Food Gathering - take your loved ones out to pick fruits or forage in the wild. Reconnecting to nature in this way can be thoroughly energising, inspiring and enjoyable, plus helps in understanding experientially where food comes from...

5. Sprout/Grow Food - ask your loved ones (especially children), if they'd love to help you with sprouting in the kitchen or growing food. When people are involved in growing their own food, there is a stronger connection to the produce and you might find they are more excited to eat the harvest ;)

6. Small Portions - if you're offering something raw that you sense will be perceived as 'odd' by your loved ones, try offering only small amounts at first. With my parents for example, I offer shotglasses of green juice and describe it as 'medicine' - they are willing to grimace and knock this back, whereas a big glass might be off-putting to them.

on October the 20th I adored:

1 quart water
2 cups goji juice with Marine Phytoplankton, Merlin's Elixir and Etherium Gold
bowl of chia pudding with homemade spicy–sweet almond milk, incan berries and chunks of freeze–dried durian
1 quart water
2 cups greeeeen juice: celery, cucumber, parsley, ginger, lemon
amazing gourmet raw food platter from the chefs at Café Life in Atlanta: raw quesadillas, sweet potato cannelloni, pumpkin pie – WOW ;)
2 Tbsp spirulina crunchies, 1 Tbsp bee pollen
3 cups water

on October the 21st I loved:

1 quart water
2 cups greeeeeeen juice
gourmet creation leftovers from Café Life in Atlanta: sweet potato cannelloni, raw 'samdwich', pear baklava – all outrageously yummy ;)
3 cups water
2 cups goji juice blended with Marine Phytoplankton, Merlin's Elixir and Etherium products
2 Tbsp bee pollen, ½ pack Noniland coconut crisps
1 quart water

7. Food Prep - asking your loved ones to assist in raw food prep can be a great way to get them more involved - especially children. Make it clear that by helping they are not then obliged to eat the food, though they are welcome to eat some if they'd like to ;)

8. Educational Resources - if you have inspiring raw food books, DVDs, magazines or other resources, it can be useful to leave them OUT where other people can see them and may casually dip into them, rather than packing them away out of sight.

9. Abundance - do your best to have an abundant range of raw goodies available on display for loved ones to feast on at their will. A flowing fruit basket, a stack of raw snack bars, a cookie jar packed with dehydrated fruity roll-ups, or an ice-lolly rack in the freezer of frozen raw treats can all go a long way to help making healthier treats easily accessible to the reluctant ;)

10. Shine On :) Be a shining, glowing, positive example of the raw food lifestyle, allowing others to simply observe the shifts in your life, without trying to push anything onto them. BE the change and let others follow along the path at their own pace if they'd like to, as your beaming health and radiance becomes an irresistible beacon to them ;)

I hope that helps some of you out there..

ENJOYYYYY :)

Climate Change and Food Production...

Did you know that today is Blog Action Day, worldwide? One day a year, bloggers everywhere unite to address a certain topic and this year is: Climate Change.
Hmmmmmm, Climate Change...what would the Stokes–Monarch mind like to share about that I wonder...? Let's see…well, one thing that struck me deeply recently was the wonderful dad of the Dervaes 'Urban Homesteading' family over in Pasadena, CA speaking about food growing patterns in recent years.
In an interview, Jules Dervaes, who has been growing food all around his home for many years, noted that he always used to feel clear and confident about how to direct gardening newbies with growing their own foods. In the last few years however, things have changed so dramatically in his area with the climate and seasons that there is seemingly no longer any pattern to follow...it has all gone more than a little random...he said he has tried planting tomatoes out FIVE times in the last 12 months and none of the crops have yielded much harvest...
This really struck me, as it illustrated for me at a very simple, hands–on, practical level the result that climate change is having...and as someone who is very keen to learn more about growing food and to get my hands in the soil on our land down in Ecuador sometime in the next year, all being well, I am VERY interested to know how climate changes may be directly affecting food yields...
So, aside from eating raw (and hence potentially producing a lot less waste, plus a smaller footprint if you're eating lots of local, organic, wild foods), what ELSE might help curb Climate Change? HERE is a wonderful list of 10 solutions for Climate Change from Scientific American – ENJOY ;)
Here's to Mama Earth...WE LOVE YOU :)))

    Tooth Issues and Raw Food...

Lately we seem to have had a rush of Qs about teeth issues with a raw lifestyle. I thought it might be useful therefore to post here some info on this topic – here we go:

Many raw foodists seem to develop issues with their teeth. I recommend using natural toothpaste that does not contain glycerin, such as the 'Tooth Soap' products. Glycerin coats the teeth, meaning calcium and other beneficial ions cannot easily reach the enamel to help it regenerate. Teeth can regenerate, like all bones in the body, if given the chance. Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide is a great alternative choice for keeping the mouth clean. (Use only in a 3% solution. Add a drop or two of this solution to your toothbrush before brushing.) Eating mineral-rich black rock salt from India/Pakistan has been reported to strengthen and support tooth health as well. Most importantly, floss and brush your teeth daily, rinse your mouth out with water after eating/drinking anything sweet/acidic and...smile :)

Other than that, getting PLENTY of green leafy vegetables and mineral–dense foods into the body is KEY for getting lots of calcium into your system that can be used effectively by the body...plus sesame seeds/tahini/figs are great for calcium...we also now have the Raw Calcium/Grow Bone products from Garden of Life, if you want to supplement that way...
We also have some GREAT books on dental care on our site HERE.

    I hope that helps :)

3 cups goji juice blended with Merlin's Elixir & Marine Phytoplanton
    2 cups water

Mmmmmm, I don't think I've ever been so MOVED by the contest entries for a RawReform Giveaway as with the last batch that came in, to win a free copy of Elena Tonetti's awe-inspiring 'Birth As We Know It' DVD.
My heart felt like it was breaking with each and every contest submission that I read: I wanted to send a copy to EVERYONE... ;(
This is truly SUCH an amazing, life-shifting documentary that I thoroughly recommend viewing at any opportunity you get...alas, there could only be one winner of last month's giveaway however...and that winner was picked today as the lovely, open-hearted, flowing goddess, Sparrow Jones :)

In answer to the question: "If you were the winner of the Birth As We Know It DVD, who would you share this inspiring documentary with and why?", Sparrow replied:

"I am on the Women's History Month planning committee at my university
and we had already decided to make this coming year's theme "Birth Stories" --
a theme that can be applied both to actual childbirth as
well as to birthing of ideas, rebirth of self, and more.

Part of our WHM festivities includes hosting a gender studies
conference to which people from all over the country come to listen to
and present ideas about gender, genderedness, and all related topics.
The conference draws quite a crowd, especially since we have hosted
luminary keynote speakers such as Barbara Ehrenriech, author of
"Nickel and Dimed: On Not Getting By in America."

If I were the winner of the Birth As We Know It DVD, I would use my
position as a member of the WHM planning committee to arrange a
special viewing and discussion of the ideas presented in the DVD. With
our conference already drawing a crowd of people interested in such
ideas and our theme of "Birth Stories" already having been chosen, it
would be the perfect opportunity to open a lot of people's eyes,
minds, and hearts to new ways of thinking and relating."

    Sparrow R. Jones

Oooooo, WONDERFUL - thank you so much Sparrow, for entering this contest and for your desire to share this DVD with the people at your conference :)...and THANK YOU indeed to ALL of you who entered this contest...

    $10 OFF for EVERYONE :)))
If you'd still love to get a copy of this outstanding DVD, as a special offer to you all, I've arranged to have the DVD on sale in our store for $10 off the usual price (from now until October 20th :) You can now get 'Birth As We Know It' for just $35 using this link HERE. I want as many people as possible to feel able to access and share this important information - ENJOY :)))

on October the 4th I adored:

    1 quart water
double shotglass of orange juice with goji juice
3 cups greeeeeeeeen juice: celery, cucumber, zucchini, spinach, parsley, romaine, endive, fennel
YUMMMMMMY meal at Au Lac: Chimmichurri followed by shared De La Mamma and Donut Holes – WE LOVE ITO :)))

    1 quart water

My dear friend Lara has a very special invite to extend to any of you who would LOVE to go and help out at her mum Zanna's charming retreat centre, on the volcanic Canary Island of Lanzarote, near Spain... :)
    Here's the download from Lara:

"Zanna, at Villa Amatista retreat centre in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, is looking for WWOOFers (work exchange) AND a paid admin person; soul family, conscious, lovely people, who can use their initiative and are diligent at working.

    ***WWOOFing Positions***
*working on the land+gardens - there is a hectare of land, growing lots of veggies and fruit trees.
    *Painting walls
    *Sweeping paths
    *Planting trees
    *Building stone walls
*Preparing food (for everyone, or for groups when there are courses/workshops).
*...and always lots of different things to be done.

In return for your help, you will receive your food and accommodation. Food is Vegetarian/Vegan, mainly raw - lots of salad from the garden. All Yummy!
Work 5 days a week, normally 9am-2pm. But if you want to work later instead you can, and if you want to have an extra day off you can work a little more for a couple of days - there are many possibilities.

    ***Long-Term Admin Job***
For this position, you receive your food and accommodation, plus some extra spending money.
There isn't actually a lot of admin to handle, but the centre does need someone to check the e-mails and deal with the bookings daily. Hours of admin vary each day and as there is not a huge amount to do in the office, you get to work/play in the garden too ;)
This position requires someone who is competent with computers, speaks Spanish fluently/very competently and is able to get on independently with whatever tasks are at hand.

With either position, you can also get involved in the regular workshops, including topics such as rebirthing, pilates/yoga, pranic healing, Tai Chi, shamanic healing and so on. You can see all about the centre HERE - the site is available in four languages.
If you are interested in either of these positions, please contact Zanna by e-mail on: zanna.amatista (at) gmail.com.
    ENJOY..."
