The answer is spinach...

Wishing you all a Happy, Healthy Halloween as I write this tonight…my friend here told me this evening that the average child in this neighbourhood likely collects around two supermarket bags full of ‘candy’ while trick-or-treating… :O :O :O …I’m astounded…and I certainly hope the tooth fairies of grace are working their magic tonight ;)
Raw Pumpkin Pie recipes seem to be abounding at this time of year - yummmmm - here's one over on the Raw Seattle site that looks good...

On October the 30th I had:

2.5 cups water
1.5 cups warm water with lemon juice
3.5 cups cucumber/spinach/romaine/broccoli sprouts/radish/sunchoke/carrot juice
bowl of chia seeds soaked in blended banana/persimmons, swirled with maca, cinnamon, goji berries and pumpkin seeds
2 cups water
bowl of durian blended with bananas, swirled with maca, cinnamon and goji berries
1.5 quarts water

If you haven’t yet seen this amusing ‘mainstream’ spin on the damages of plastic food and prescription drugs, from Bill Maher, I’d recommend it – it’s nice to see this message penetrating a little deeper into society daily... ;) According to Bill, ‘The answer is spinach’. Nice… ;) Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHXXTCc-IVg

on October the 31st I had:

2 cups water
1.5 cups warm water with lemon
1.2 quarts alfalfa/ginseng/sunchoke/celeriac/radish/cucumber/spinach/red lettuce/carrot/cilantro juice (PHEEEEEEEW – intense stuff ;)
bowl of durian blended with banana, mesquite powder and cinnamon and swirled with goji berries and diced dates
1 quart water
½ lb longans
2 persimmons
1 quart celeriac/parsley/celery/carrot/radish/ginseng/romaine juice

Feral Phone Woman on Facebook... ;)

Hmmmmm…so…I’m still in Canada…and it’s starting to get cold here – there was thick frost the last few mornings – a definite sign for me that it’s time to shimmy on out ;) …and indeed, I was due to be in Australia by now…and yet…and yet…and…yet…the latest thrilling installment of visa blahblah intervened and so here I still am…ho-hummmmmmm…off to OZ next weekend now instead and in the meantime, well, it is giving me wonderful opportunity to get on with masses of writing for my new book, which I’m so excited about and can currently be found squeaking about enthusiastically on the phone, daily…(see picture above as evidence ;) I am feeling SO immensely blessed at the technology we have available to stay in contact with loved ones these days. Through Skype video-conferencing, I get to ‘be’ with Matt every day, even if he’s thousands of miles away down there in the States…in the last few days I’ve been to two lectures with him, met the guests at his magnificent raw ice cream party and today even got to join in on the GORGEOUS women’s singing circle I used to sing with back there in California…hmmmmmm…I am so grateful that I am able to participate in this way – and for FREE – Skype is so amazing…if you haven’t ever checked it out, I’d highly recommend it…you can sign up for free Skype calls HERE.

On October the 28th I had:

1 quart water
3 cups alfalfa/romaine/spinach/celery/carrot/ginger
2 cups water
bowl of sea spaghetti mixed with pumpkin seed butter, salt and hemp seed
piece of raw chocolate/cinnamon shortbread cake. Base – mixture of ground almonds, raw honey, lucuma powder and cinnamon. Frosting – coconut oil mixed with raw honey and cacao powder. Yummmm ;)
1 quart water
1 quart celery/carrot/alfalfa juice
1 persimmon
3 cups water

I have been dancing like a feral woman the last few days…lol…I am in LOVE with ecstatic dancing bliss…as I said, it’s kind of cold and rainy too here at the moment, so, rather than go out for my usual daily jog, I’ve been cranking up the toooooons and dancing like a banshee in the living room. I LOVE IT. It feels sooooooo immensely liberating and energising for my whole body – I let it move as it wants to, going with the flow – it is deeply meditative for me and I feel totally at one with spirit and connected. It’s an ecstatic state for me – it feels so good that at times I almost can’t handle it, as my body shakes and jostles and spins and grinds as it likes, releasing tension, un-stiffening joints, freeing endorphins…sometimes the movements surprise even me – I’ll see a reflection of myself and am amazed I can even move like that…ahhhhhhh…I absolutely recommend putting on some bumpin’ music and going wild in your living room – yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-HAH :)))

on October the 29th I had:

3 cups water
1 cup warm water with lemon
1 quart celery/carrot/ginger/apple juice
bowl of blended bananas mixed with ground almonds, ground flax seed, maca, cinnamon, mulberries and pumpkin seeds
1 cup water
bowl of sea spaghetti seaweed mixed with hemp seed butter, salt, sliced sundried tomatoes, grated carrot and grated sunchoke
2 cups water
1 Asian pear
2 cups water
1 quart cucumber/cilantro/spinach/romaine/carrot/sunchoke juice
2 cups water

Ok, I finally did it…I let go into the flow and joined Facebook ;) The invitations to join have been popping up repeatedly in the last months and my resistance finally snapped ;) You can see my page HERE…it seems nice to me – much more user-friendly than MySpace, from my POV…I also took this opportunity to create a new page on the RawReform website, which gathers together all the places on the internet where you can find RawReform, web-wide, on portals like these – you can see that new page HERE… Enjoy ;)

Summit and Shortbread...

*Ding-ding*…it’s time for another ‘public service announcement’…hmmmmm...so, last week I was very excited to mention that the Raw Summit 2 was due to start soon – on Monday the 29th of October in fact - tomorrow…the second Summit features raw speakers like Ani Phyo, Sergei Boutenko, Brian Clement, Annie Jubb, Karen Knowler and others…weeeeeeeeeell…it’s been postponed :( The yummy people at the Summit have been inundated with emails regarding their current projects and they decided to push back the starting date, to get a handle on things first…sorry ;) It’s going to start now on November the 15th instead…you can still sign up to listen to all the talks for FREE though, by clicking HERE – enjoy ;)

On October the 27th I had:

2 cups water
2 cups warm water with lemon juice
juice of 2 oranges3 cups romaine/alfalfa/spinach/ginger/carrot/celery juice
bowl of chia seed soaked in blended persimmons and banana, swirled with maca, cinnamon and mulberries
2 cups water
1 tbsp raw ‘halva’ - hemp seed butter mixed with raw honey
3 tbsp bee pollen mixed with hemp seed
2 cups water
1lb longans
3 cups spinach/romaine/celery/carrot/apple juice
2 tbsp pine nuts with mulberries
2 cups water

WOW…I’m amazed how many of you wrote today asking what lucuma is, after I mentioned using it for the banana bread recipe…you mean you haven’t tried lucuma yet...??? ;O Wow…here’s something I wrote a few months back abt the golden powder

"Lucuma has long been my favourite raw sweetener and recently I’ve been experimenting and making some amazing recipes with it… It’s made from a dried fruit from Peru, comes as a golden powder which is low glycemic and it tastes like SHORTBREAD…just divine…
Lucuma isn’t always easy to locate, but you can see more about it and order some to start playing with from the RawReform online store HERE
Here is one recipe I made up recently that is the nearest thing to raw shortbread I’ve ever tasted and so simple – just three ingredients…yummmmmmmmm…

Raw Shortbread Recipe
Ground Almonds
Raw Honey
Lucuma Powder

Just combine those three ingredients together in whatever quantities you like to get the consistency and sweetness you love and ENJOY ;)"

Top 15 Reasons Why Squirrels (and other animals) Must Think We’re Nuts...

I am SO excited to share with you an article I recently came across… I think this is one of the most wonderful things I’ve read in recent years – I love it. The title is ‘Top 15 Reasons Why Squirrels (and other animals) Must Think We’re Nuts’ and it’s by an ‘eco’ writer called Gavin Hudson. This article is SO in alignment with the way I see the world…and it’s well-written, funny and intelligent…wonderful. I loved it so much that I asked the writer if I could add it to the RawReform site…he agreed and so…well, I’ll let you just go and read it for yourself – it’s HERE: http://www.rawreform.com/content/view/344/127/

On October the 25th I had:

1 quart water
1 quart alfalfa/beet/carrot/celery/ginger/arugula/dill juice
little bowl of sea spaghetti with hemp seed butter
3 cups water
bowl of blended bananas with maca, lucuma, cinnamon, ground almonds, ground flax seed and swirled with mulberries
1 cup water
1 quart carrot/celery/arugula/dill/apple juice
1lb longans
1 quart water

Tee-hee – I’m delighted to hear how many of you have been making and enjoying the Monarch banana bread & cream cheese recipe already…and for all of those who emailed to ask if the ‘bread’ gets dehydrated before eating…well, we’ve never done that – we just shape it into smthg and eat it immediately – I’m sure it would be great dehydrated too…also, Mr Monarch recommended that I tell you that he actually prefers the version I recently made using the ingredients we had on hand here – I used chopped brazil nuts and diced prunes instead of walnuts and raisins and I also added in some lucuma powder for shortbready yumminess… ;)

on October the 26th I had:

1 quart water
1 quart alfalfa/sunflower greens/dill/arugula/apple/carrot/celery/ginger juice
little bowl of hemp seed/flax oil/salt with nori, dulse and pumpkin seed butter
1 pint water
bowl of durian blended with banana, cinnamon and maca, swirled with mulberries
1.5 quarts water

Alright, so some of you have been writing, asking what I mean when I write ‘green juice’ and also mentioning that you find it challenging to make green combos that you enjoy…you may have noticed I’ve been doing my best the last few days to remember and write out the ingredients for each juice I have now – I used to do that of course while Juice Feasting – these days it all seems like a bit of a liquid blur though – so many juices in my life… ;) I’ll endeavour to list them from now on…in the meantime, my book ‘A Juice Feaster’s Handbook’ of course contains many different juice combos you might enjoy – you can see that HERE.
And here are three of my favourite tasty green combos:

'chocolate milk' - spinach/romaine/carrot celery/apple/cucumber/ginger - very light and refreshing pineapple with greens (e.g. spinach, lettuce, mint)

Enjoy ;)
All blessings,

Raw Banana Bread Recipe Revealed...

Wow, you people must really be HANKERING for banana bread…lol – my inbox almost collapsed with requests for the recipe today – I’m sorry that I forgot the hyperlink yesterday to the post where I’d outlined the ingredients before…ok, so, HERE is that link and I also decided to write out the recipe here below, as I hadn’t given quantities for anything in that post before…so, here we go:

Banana-Nut Bread
2 cups vegetable juice pulp (preferably at least half of it carrot pulp)
8 tbsp ground flax or chia
¾ cup chopped walnuts
¾ cup raisins
5 bananas

Mix together the veggie juice pulp and bananas in a food processor. Add in the ground flax or chia and let the food processor run until the seeds are completely mixed in.
Transfer the mixture to a bowl with the walnuts and raisins and mix them in thoroughly by hand. Shape into a loaf. For major yumminess, top with ‘Cream Cheese’ (see below).
Cream Cheese
Flesh of three avocadoes
9 dates
juice of 1 or 2 lemons
big handful of dulse

Blend the ingredients in a blender. Serve on top of banana-nut bread, or just eat on its own ;)

That’s it – super-easy, a good way to recycle juicing pulp and VERY yummy – well, we like it anyway…then again, we’ve been raw rather a long time…when we made some the other day, we were actually laughing a great deal to imagine how we’d have reacted in our pre-raw days if given this kind of meal…well, try it, you might like it... ;)

On October the 23rd I had:

1 quart water
2 cups carrot/beet/apple/ginger/parsley/sunflower greens juice
1 lb longans
2 persimmons blended with Amazon Bliss butter
1 pint water
1 pint parsley/carrot/spinach/celery/lemon juice
blended apples/sunflower greens/dulse mixed with ground flax/almonds, swirled with dried mulberries and date pieces
1.5 quarts water

It’s time for one of those thrilling ‘public service announcements’ again ;) This is a short announcement to say that I’ve postponed the talk I was intending to give at the Yoga studio in Vancouver this Saturday - the 27th - until I’m back in this area next year sometime. It didn’t seem to be flowing so well to hold the event on that day, and so…so be it – we shall return ;) Plans are already afoot for us to do talks and retreats in the Vancouver/Victoria area next year, so we’ll catch up with y'all again then ;) Next: Australia

on October the 24th (my mum’s 60TH birthday ;) HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM :) I had:

1 quart water
1.5 quarts watermelon/orange/pineapple juice
3 cups alfalfa/arugula/romaine/sunflower greens/celery/carrot juice
1 persimmon
little bowl of hemp seed/flax oil/salt mixture with nori sheets
1lb longans
3 cups alfalfa/arugula/celery/sunflower greens/carrot juice
bowl of chia soaked in a mixture of blended bananas and dragon fruit, swirled with mulberries, maca and cinnamon - yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
1.5 quarts water

Tomorrow evening – October the 25th – brings the full moon to us again, this time in Taurus…according to Lisa Dale Miller, it’s an ideal time for embodying our intention to caretake our world:

“…it is our actions here on earth which matter most for bringing an end to the suffering and pain humans cause each other, our animal and plant brothers and sisters, and our collective Mother, the Earth.
Taurus wishes us a life that is beautiful, warm, soft, loving, and sensual; one filled with the pleasures of family and friends, good food, beautiful surroundings, great music and art, and all things that help soothe and heal anxiety and worry.
The best way I know of to ensure survival is to think bigger than just your own needs and give generously to others…. self-worth does not come from how much power, control and wealth we have; rather from how much we selflessly give away.
The Full Moon in Taurus enlivens our sense of responsibility to caretake our planet and its inhabitants. Reconsider the importance of your needs and desires in light of how they impact the environment. Maybe this year, you'll take those fallen leaves and start a compost pile instead of putting them in plastic bags and sending them to your local dump. How about setting up a bird feeder for the winter? How about taking ten dollars of your income every month and sending it to your favorite environmental organization?
It is our job to protect Mother Earth and her inhabitants. We are talking total embodiment of love, here on earth, with your partner, your kids, your neighbors and their kids, your parents, your friends and their friends, your enemies, your community, your schools, your coworkers, your customers, your government, our government's friends and supposed enemies, every person in every nation, every tree, plant, animal, body of water, rock, mountain, bird, planet, star, solar system, galaxy, every one of the multiple universes, and everything that could possibly exist in all possible existences. Wrap your mind around that, then let go and open into partnership with all our relations!
Don't wait for things to get so bad that we have nothing left. Change now, get involved, do something that serves someone other than you, and I guarantee your heart will open and surrender into the love that can heal every dark place in your psyche, your body, your heart, and by extension all the dark places within the global psyche, body and heart. We can all rise to this occasion, while remaining embodied and connected to all other life.”

Mmmmm-HMMMMMm…wow, I really hear that message, loud and clear…the time is NOW to act and show our love for this planet. To read Lisa’s full summary on the power of this full moon, click HERE.

Island Days...

Ok, we’re in Victoria now, on Vancouver Island…we came here on Saturday and we’ve been absolutely loving it here ;) We gave a presentation at a wellness centre on Saturday evening, to a lovely crowd and then have been exploring the area the last few days. Things I appreciate so far:

1. We have been gifted a fabulous little cottage to stay in during our time here, from a yummy reader of this e-journal. WOW…SUCH a gorgeous little retreat space – all raw kitchen equipment we could want, a compost, rebounder, trays of fresh sprouts and wheatgrass waiting for us, Spiritual Cinema DVD collection, wonderful books, right next to the ocean…amazing…we feel so blessed…
2. Everyone here seems SO friendly and happy and smiley and sweet ;) The scenery is stunning too and I LOVE being back by the sea…
3. The CLOTHES shops are simply outstanding for me, in terms of the selection of ‘eco-friendly’ fabrics available. I’ve never seen such a huge array of organic cotton, hemp, bamboo clothes and more in one place – especially such a ‘little’ place, in terms of physical size…it’s wonderful…
4. There are GREAT longans available in Chinatown and Victoria even has a restaurant that serves raw food – called Mo:le. There are also quite a few juice bars around – like in Green Cuisine…
5. We were also invited to use an infra-red sauna yesterday at the house of one of the lovely women who attended our talk on Saturday. She healed from breast cancer with the raw lifestyle and now helps others on this path. We had a great sauna, then I promptly threw up twice after it. Hmmmm…I think the combination of intense sauna, lots of wheatgrass, niacin and excitement was a bit too much for me ;) It felt very odd to vomit – it’s SO long since I last did…and I was a bit wobbly for a couple of hours. I just rested though and then was fine…

We’ve received requests and invites to come back here next year too and play some more – either talks or maybe a retreat or…who knows…? ;) We’d love to come back, so…let’s stay tuned to see what unfolds…

On October the 21st I had:

1 quart water
double shot of wheatgrass juice
1 quart green juice with carrot and beetroot
bowl of durian blended with banana and cracao powder and swirled with dates and goji berries
3 cups water
½ lb longans
2 cups raspberry leaf tea
1 pint green juice with carrot
bowl of Mr Monarch’s fabulous ‘banana bread with cream cheese’ (again, see HERE for the recipe)
1 pint rooibos tea
1 pint water

Ok, a little ‘public service announcement’ again…I am extremely relieved and grateful to say that the RawReform email is now fully working again. The whole system was down for a week – eeeeeeeeek – I am so very sorry…I know many of you were getting bouncebacks…well, now it’s all back up again, so you can email rawreform@rawreform.com freely – hurray :) Thanks for your patience…

on October the 22nd I had:

1 quart water
double shot of wheatgrass juice
3 cups melon/apple juice
1lb longans
1 pint parsley/spinach/celery/carrot/lemon juice
2 persimmons, more longans and a few mulberries
double shot of wheatgrass
1 quart water
1 pint water
3 cups celery/spinach/parsley/carrot juice
bowl of blended apples mixed with ground flax/almonds and swirled with mulberries – yummmmmm
3 cups water

Mr Monarch’s new book, Raw Success is OUT NOW :) I’m so happy for him…and he’s very excited, as feedback starts to come in from those who are already reading it…it was launched at the Raw Spirit Fest last weekend and sold around 500 copies in the first week…we’re excited that this information is getting out there…it contains info about ‘The Blood Gas Theory’ (among other things) – which is something Dr. Fred Bisci ‘handed down’ to Matt and seems to be rarely spoken of/understood in raw food circles, yet is KEY for understanding how detox works – which is essentially what being raw is all about for most modern humans – we have decades and decades of waste to release…you can see the book and order your copy HERE... ENJOY and do email him and let him know your thoughts if you read it…

Your questions answered...

Ooooo, lots of questions from y’all at the moment…here’s my answers to three:

1. Could you send the recipes in measures that I can relate to? United States measures – 1 cup, 2 quarts. I don’t know what 500ml water is...Please help translate!!! Thanks! R.
Eeeeeeek…yes, I suspect this is something many of you have issues understanding…sorry about that…I use millilitres because it’s the easiest thing for ME to get my head round…when I was growing up in the UK, we seemed to learn in partly metric and partly imperial. The result is a messy measurement system in my head. Millilitres seem the least irksome for me to use, as the system at least seems somewhat ‘logical’ (compared to, for instance ‘stones’ – 1 stone being…14 lbs…or something peculiar like that... ;) Yet I understand that millilitres are confusing for most over on this continent…cups, pints and quarts are all a bit hazy in my brain…I’ll do my best to start converting over though from now on…for now, just be aware that 500ml is approx. equivalent to a pint and 1 litre is about the same as a quart…hope that helps ;)

2. What are longans? A "box" of them no less! S.
MMMMMMMmmmmm…longans…these are my new favourite toy. They grow in south-east Asia, are small round fruits with a yellowy-brownish thin shell and are kind of similar to a lychee or rambutan inside. You peel the shell off and find a soft, juicy, translucent white ball of fruit inside, that tastes, to me, somewhere between caramel and pepper ;) I’m eating so many at the moment because I’m living right beside a Korean supermarket that has trays of them packed fresh daily – YUMMMMM – so, when I say a ‘box’, that means a 1lb tray of sweet caramelly, peppery yummmmm ;)

on October the 18th I had:

1 litre water
800ml green juice with carrot
little bowl of sea spaghetti with pumpkin seed butter, granulated wrack and cumin powder, with nori stuffed with hemp seed/flax oil/salt mixture
300ml spice tea
500ml water
700ml green juice with carrot
Mr Monarch’s famous ‘banana bread with cream cheese’ (see past post HERE for details)
700ml water

3. Hi Angela, recently joined your daily blog and monthly emailing and came across an older blog about the almond scare. i haven't been following up on what's happened with this. would you know if almonds are no longer safe to eat? have they enforced the law yet or is it still pending? would you know where we might order almonds in order to ensure that their raw? also, would you know if the still-in-the-shell almonds also going to be pasteurized? it's such a ludicrous situation! unbelievable. B.
Hmmmmm…yes, the almonds…well, to be honest I kind of lost the plot with the almond issue too…I know the mandate got passed that now requires all almonds to be ‘sanitised’. The fabulous Eli Penberthy of Cornucopia.org sends me updates to let me know what’s happening and the latest can all be found on this page of the Cornucopia website:http://cornucopia.org/index.php/almonds/ That page contains a comprehensive fact sheet about the issue, as well as sample letters that can be directed to the USDA (or to Cornucopia, who will direct them on for you).
I hope that helps answer your questions…thanks for sending them in ;)

on October the 19th I had:

1 litre water
1 litre watermelon/orange juice
700ml green juice with carrot
gorgeous little bowl of persimmons blended with Amazon Bliss, swirled with goji berries – GORGEOUS
1 litre water
raw pesto pizza, half a raw veggie-burger, assortment of raw chocolate treats – all from the uber-fabulous Gorilla Food raw take-out in Vancouver
1 litre water

Just to let you know, there are a couple of changes to announce for my talk in Victoria tomorrow (Saturday):
1. Following his sudden and unexpected re-appearance in Canada, Mr. Monarch will be joining me and giving a talk too :)
2. The venue has had a last minute shuffle – only up a flight of stairs though, no major worries ;) We are now upstairs from the Green Cuisine Restaurant at:

Pacific Rim College (Complementary and Integrative Medicine - mostly oriental and acupuncture)
Suite #229, Market Square, 560 Johnson Street
Victoria, BC
http://www.pacificrimcollege.ca/

The event starts at 6.30pm. You’ll still be able to get juices and food etc from the restaurant downstairs and we also hope to have a juicer at the event, to knock out some more liquid yummmm – hope to see you there if you’re around…

Monarchs, mushrooms and mags...

OOoOOooOooOoooo, yumminess…so…Mr Monarch left the Raw Spirit Fest on Monday morning, sat in a car driving back to California…and decided he actually wanted to come and see me in Canada instead…so, outlandish romantic that he is, he jumped on a plane, flew on back to me and arrived here late Monday night… :) Yeeeeeeeeee-HAH…I am VERY happy :)))
He brought me the most INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL gift…he'd bought a video camera just before the Raw Spirit Fest and spent the whole weekend there filming parts of the event for me, collecting greetings from old and new friends and SO much more…it is absolute YUMMINESS…I am so grateful to all of you who participated, THANK YOU, thank you, THANK YOU :) I will share some of it when I get my editing skills a bit more finely tuned...in the meantime, HERE's a just-released 6-minute summary clip of the festie from raw lovebug Philip McCluskey: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xVgER57v-I0
ENJOY :)

on October the 16th I had:

1 litre water
800ml green juice with carrot
Amazon Bliss butter with a sliced apple and a small handful of dulse
800ml green juice with carrot
500ml water
1 box of longans
½ durian blended with frozen bananas, maca and cinnamon and swirled with goji berries
1.2 litres water

Hmmmm…somewhat bizarrely, lots of you have suddenly started emailing me about kombucha…questions like: how do you make it? Where do you get it from? Why were you drinking lots and now not drinking any? and so on…
Ok…well, back in my early raw days, I was fortunate to receive a piece of kombucha mushroom from some dear friends. I found the fact that it’s made with standard black tea and white sugar extremely curious…yet went with it and started making my own batches of it…I liked it and felt good having it, so kept going with it…then my travelling lifestyle intervened…and as with many things, making kombucha on the road didn’t seem very viable…and it just kind of fell out of my life – I left the mushroom with a friend and shimmied off to other raw pursuits…
Then a few weeks ago we were in Montreal and met some BEAUTIFUL people who are brewing up big batches of amazing flavoured kombucha with MUCH love…they were catering an event we did – I tried the kombucha and really liked it, so we got some bottles of it – HENCE I was drinking it daily for a while there…then when the bottles of that ran out, I stopped drinking it again – simple ;) It is reputed to ease myriad ‘health issues’ – from candida to skin issues to digestive trouble and so on…
Intriguingly enough, in the first book of Anastasia, she actually mentions that one can make a SPACESHIP from the Kombucha mushroom…lol…you’ll have to read it for yourself to get the design specifics... ;)
It seems that in the States at least, you can now get Kombucha bottled in many natural food stores. If you can get hold of a piece of the mushroom (also known as the ‘mother’) from somewhere (you can even buy it online these days it seems...), you can start making it yourself…you just need the mushroom, black tea, white sugar and water (…yes, I know, strange yet true…here is ONE SITE that shows you how to make it – there are many sites out there with slightly different methods…)…it MAY also interest you to see some of the conversations on the Juice Feaster’s Google Group that have been kicking around on the subject of Kombucha – see HERE - some interesting stuff...
Alright, that’s plenty of kombucha rambling for now…

on October the 17th I had:

1 litre water
350ml orange/celery juice

BLOG ACTION DAY...(and 'no-email-action' day ;)

First off, a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
This comment was left by Heidi today and I replied to it on the comments section, but am copying it all here as well, as I want to be sure everyone sees it who may want to know... ;)
Heidi said:
Angela,
I have been trying to reach you via email, but I can't get through to your email. I keep getting undeliverable messages via rawreform@rawreform.com Please let me know if you have a new email address? Perhaps your email is down?
Hope to talk to you soon,
~ Heidi

I replied:
THANK YOU for your message - yes, having major issues with all '@rawreform.com' emails right now, I'm very sorry to say :( Apologies to all of you who have been trying to send messages there and find they bounce back...The email server gremlins seem to have monkeyed the whole thing at the moment...some 'webmasters' are currently working on fixing the issue though ;) Please send good ju-ju their way and hopefully all of your messages won't have been warped into cyber-space...In the meantime, please re-direct any messages to rawreform@hotmail.com if you want to be sure they get through...

Ok...(exhale)...so, on with the show ;)

Secondly...WOW, today NewsTarget published one of my weight loss articles as their lead article in a whole email blast about raw foods. If you’re not familiar with the work of NewsTarget and its founder, Mike Adams, I’d highly recommend checking it out. They send out email shots most days with cutting-edge alternative health info. It is an extremely popular email service, with over 100,000 subscribers I believe…and today, raw foods got highlighted in a big email blast to that whole list…WOW...imagine if ALL those people shimmied a little further into the light of raw foods, what am impact that would have... :)…aside from my article, which you can see HERE, Mike Adams himself also just posted an insightful personal report from the Raw Spirit Fest – see HERE, plus another article examines gluten intolerance…

on October the 15th I had:

1.2 litres water
800ml green juice with carrot
bowl of soaked dried figs blended with hemp seeds and cinnamon – RIDICULOUSLY yummy and simple…
1 litre water
800ml green juice with carrot
bowl of sea spaghetti with pumpkin seed butter and granulated wrack
Pro2Go packs for ‘dessert’ ;)
1.5 litres water

Thirdly (yet by no means lastly ;) ...today – October the 15th – is officially ‘Blog Action Day’, wherein bloggers all over the world form a ‘united front’ to blog on the same topic, hence drawing attention to that subject. The theme this year is ‘The Environment’…hmmmmmm…well, well, well…what would I like to share about the environment…??? Where to begin…? I think I will give my top ten tips for ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIONaction, after all, is where it’s at – we can read and write all the blahblah we like about the environment – taking action is the key for real, lasting shifts…so, here we go, in no particular order

1. Compost your food scraps and re-use/recycle all else that you can of your waste. Start TODAY. (Hmmmm...have I ever mentioned composting before…??? ;) Are you starting to see a pattern emerging here…? ;)

2. Grow your own food – even if it’s in window boxes, plant pots or indoors – get truly ‘local’ with your food choices and grow your own.

3. Choose organic, if you’re not already. That goes for food, clothes and anything else where you have a choice. You vote with your dollar on these matters every single day – what are you going to choose?

4. Learn more about foraging – the more people who are able to identify edible plants and make use of them/educate others, the better, in my opinion. This is a HIGHLY valuable skill.

5. Read the Anastasia books and put what you learn into practice. NOTHING in recent years has motivated me more to get to a piece of land and start raising my own food and family than these books.

6. Try walking or riding a bike somewhere you would normally drive a car to reach. Re-evaluate this journey. Do you really ‘need’ to use a vehicle to get there, or are actually driving from habit?

7. Plant some trees OR support charities that do so. We support The Woodland Trust in the UK and The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, based in the US.

8. Pick up some litter in YOUR area – caring for the earth is something we can all do. Maybe you didn’t drop that litter yourself. You could pick it up though. Try seeing all pieces of land, all aspects of nature - the whole picture - as something you are connected to.

9. Cease using new plastic/paper bags at shops. Invest in some fabric bags or ‘bags for life’, as sold in many supermarkets these days. Keep some in your vehicle, or near your keys etc – somewhere you will remember to take them with you to the shops. If you live in a country where the shops do not yet charge you for each plastic bag you use, try to imagine you DO live somewhere like that…imagine each bag cost you $1 – then how many would you use?

10. Dry your clothes OUTSIDE IN THE AIR/SUN whenever possible. Tumble dryers are one of the most energy-consuming appliances in the home.

Ok…that will do for now ;) I could have gone on for a few more pages there…10 is a good start…I’d recommend checking out the site of The Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales for more ideas…I used to live/work there…it’s a phenomenal place…

The Golden Chopsticks...

I’ve had such a nice weekend being ‘virtually present’ at the Raw Spirit Fest :) I feel so blessed. Matt and I had live video chat set up with our webcams, through Skype – I got to chat with many people who visited our booth. On Saturday, Mr. Monarch took me on a ‘walk’ around the grounds and I even got to do some virtual shopping for new eco-clothes ;) Today I ‘sat in’ on his lecture and interacted a bit with the audience, answering questions on emotional issues, weight loss and thyroid conditions. It’s been wonderful to have the opportunity to feel part of the celebrations and connect with so many vibrant friends, even if I couldn’t be there physically, in person… Mr. Monarch also apparently received an award there this evening on my behalf…I didn’t get all the details yet, but it seems I was awarded “The Golden Chopsticks” award for something like being ‘Up and Coming’ in the Raw Food Movement ;) Sweet ;)

on October the 13th I had:

1.5 litres water
800ml green juice with carrot
hemp seed/flax oil/Celtic sea salt mix with nori, dulse, flax crackers and pumpkin seed butter
1 litre water
1 dragon fruit
1 litre celery/zucchini/carrot juice
bowl of chia soaked in blended banana and mango, with goji berries, cinnamon and maca
1.5 litres water

NEWS FLASH: Next Saturday – Oct 20th - I’ll be hopping across the water to give a talk in Victoria, BC. The event starts at 6.30pm in the ‘Green Cuisine’ Restaurant, #5-560 Johnson Street, (Market Square), Victoria. For more info, contact sylver1@shaw.ca. Hope to see you there if you’re in the area ;)

on October the 14th I had:

1 litre water
1 litre green juice with carrot
2 persimmons
500ml water
fresh tomato/avocado/hemp seed/salt dip with homemade flax crackers and dulse
500ml water
bowl of longans
800ml celery/romaine/pineapple juice (looooong time since I had pineapple in a juice…brings back memories of Juice Feasting/Costa Rica for me ;)
bowl of frozen banana blended with soaked dried figs (plus fig soak water), cinnamon, maca and hemp seed butter, swirled with goji berries for chew-ability
1 litre water

I’ve been listening to a lot of old Mariah Carey recordings lately…WOW…her voice absolutely BLOWS ME AWAY…I used to actually be quite obsessed with her music as a young teen…one of my best friends used to say I was like a ‘musical nazi’ as I only ever wanted to hear Mariah's music...lol ;) I think I was just totally captivated by her voice…I once saw an interview with her where it said she had a vocal range over…was it 8 octaves…??? There are times when she sings notes so high SHE SOUNDS LIKE A DOLPHIN to me or a dog whistle or something…lol…absolutely phenomenal…I don’t follow TV/magazine/media stuff anymore, so don’t know much abt her recent years, other than it seems things ‘fell apart’ a bit for her at some point…well, much love her way…check out this live YouTube version of ‘Emotions’ from…years ago…look at the SIZE of her hair too :O ...quite remarkable… ;)

'Virtually' there... :)

MmmmmmMmmMMmmmMMmm :) I’m SO happy…Mr Monarch being the light-worker of joy and gorgeousness that he is, rigged it up today so that I could speak directly with Skype through our computer webcams to anyone at his booth at Raw Spirit Fest – it’s like I’m ‘virtually’ there – I love it :) I caught up with many old friends and met many more lovely new raw peoples too…it was great fun, seeing it all play out on our little video screens :) Skype at least knows no borders ;) Someone actually wrote to me today asking if there is a ‘live feed’ from Raw Spirit available anywhere…hmmmm, well, not that I know of, other than the one I got to play through today ;) GREAT idea though – we can suggest it for next yearDavid Rain speaks at the festie in place of me tomorrow afternoon at 4.30, on the juicy subject of...Juice Feasting ;)

on October the 11th I had:

1 litre water
800ml green juice with carrot
bowl of durian blended with coconut meat and cinnamon, with dried mulberries :)
300ml water
handful of CHERRIES – I know, cherries in OCTOBER…what is THAT all about…???
500ml water
500ml STRONG green juice with carrot (celery, romaine, spinach, black radish, dandelion, ginger)
bowl of blended banana with maca and cinnamon, swirled with ‘buckwheaties’, pumpkin seeds and raisins (YUMM…)
1 litre water

Errrrm, I seem to have stopped eating vegetables…lol…did anyone else notice that? I seem to be totally living that phrase at the moment of ‘drinking your vegetables and eating your fruit’. Salads and so on just do not appeal to me at all. I only seem to be DRINKING vegetables as juice…then eating little meals of either straight fruit, seaweeds or fats…hmmmm, curious…I don’t mind though, it seems to be working just fine for me; I feel no different than usual… I really feel we are all our own little experimenters and explorers with our raw lifestyles…and mine right now seems to be leading me in the direction of only liquid veggies…ok, so be it ;)

on October the 12th I had:

1.2 litres water
1 litre green juice with carrot
nori wraps with hemp seed/flax oil/Celtic seasalt mixture, with flax crackers, dulse and pumpkin seed butter
1 litre water
2 persimmons
box of longans (I am LOVING longans…caramelly, peppery…gorgeous…)
500ml green juice with carrot
bowl of blended banana with maca and cinnamon, swirled with ‘buckwheaties’, pumpkin seeds and raisins
1 litre water

Co-operation, communication and ice cream... ;)

I did a really fulfilling live radio interview today...there was something quite delicious about it…it was for Vancouver Co-op radio and the host is a lovely, gentle, insightful woman named Allart…this interview differed to so many others in that we went deeeeeeep into the emotional aspects of my raw food journey – almost to the exclusion of all else ;) It was wonderful to share so much, especially with a fellow raw foodie and WOMAN who clearly is very passionate about health and healing for the masses…beautiful…you can listen to the interview HERE:
http://www.animalvoices.org/dynamichealth/dh-2007-10-10.mp3

on October the 9th I had:

1 litre water
800ml green juice with carrot
bowl of chia soaked in blended coconut meat/banana/water, with cinnamon, mulberries and lucuma powder
700ml water
handful of goji berries with pine nuts
200ml water½ a durian
1 litre water

Today also sees the new moon grace us with its presence in Libra…this is a moon close to my heart…I have a LOT of Libra in my chart…I also resonate greatly with the number 10 and interestingly, the day today is 10.10 and the time of the new moon is 10.01 PDT (the time zone I'm currently in...)…oooo la la…what to say about all THAT??? Well, as always, master astrologer Lisa Dale Miller has plenty of guidance to share on this one…here she goes:

“Because Libra rules all forms of relating, it's worth beginning with the most important of all human relationships: our stewardship of this planet. Once again, this year we all need to do very serious ritual work on this New Moon in Libra, the ruler of justice, negotiation, deep-listening, love, and caring for "the other." Look within, get active, and shower love locally; your actions and intentions will reverberate out like waves in a pond, shifting the entropic downward spiral we see happening all around us.
Because the Libra New Moon rules love and relationship, this is the most powerful New Moon for bringing new love into your life. This is the perfect time, through ritual, to clearly define your qualifications for a relationship, and set the intention to make it happen.
I recommend a New Moon in Libra ritual that revolves around serious list making. Libra is the communicator and this is the time to clearly communicate what you want, so the universe can line up behind your intention and make it a reality. Create your lists as though you are weaving a piece of fabric, using your mental and emotional energy to build intention with substance and form. When you have finished, place the lists in a sacred place somewhere in your bedroom. Read the lists each day while the Moon is waxing to full. Don't be afraid to refine or edit the lists. It helps build the energy.
Libra revels in openness and sharing. Libra is the listener of the zodiac. The only way to achieve fairness and understanding is to share your feelings and then carefully listen to the feelings of others. Use this time to engage in meaningful discussions. Libra rules compromise and negotiation and helps us learn to get what we want while making the other party feel like the winner. Win/win is the way of Libra!
The New Moon is Libra is a great time to caretake intimate relationships. This is the New Moon to remind yourself that all any of us ever really needs is love! And yes, you do deserve to be loved!!!”

Ahhhhh, beautiful ;) …see Lisa Dale Miller’s full run-down on this new moon in Libra HERE: http://astrowisdom.com/thisnewmoon.htm

on October the 10th I had:

1 litre water
1 litre green/carrot juice
big bunch of yellow-green grapes
300ml water
GORGEOUS dip made fresh with just 4 ingredients: tomatoes, avocado, hemp seeds and Celtic sea salt, with homemade brazil nut/carrot juice pulp/sundried tomato flax crackers…WOW…I seem to have come over all domestic again… ;)
500ml water
1 mango
500ml green juice with carrot
bowl of blended banana with maca and cinnamon, over soaked, dehydrated buckwheaties and chopped dried fruit…YUMMMMY
500ml water

OOoooOOooOooo, exciting yummy info for any of you in the Ojai/Santa Barbara area, in California…our friends who make the most outrageously delicious RAW ICE CREAM are now selling their wares in the local area…WOW…some of you reading this may remember the ‘durian and ice cream’ party we had earlier this year in California – well, this was the stuff we were all devouring – pints and pints of it – it’s incredible… ;) Now they’ve set up their own website for people to place orders for ‘Henry’s Raw Vegan Ice Cream’ - it's all handmade with love, in small batches, by a beautiful young raw vegan family. They are STRICTLY handling only local orders at the moment though…I do hope they'll expand at some point to sell further afield – at least to the LA area perhaps – it seems to me this is a big ‘gap in the market’ of commercial raw foods…I guess the logistics of keeping things frozen in transport etc make it complex…hmmm…in any event – if you’re in that area and want to enjoy a simply delicious raw treat, check it out… ;)

However, the most beautiful part of this award-giving is that I now get to pass the award on to 5 other blogsters and share the love…WOW, how sweet…well, as today is Thanksgiving here in Canada, this seems all very appropriate ;) Read on below to see who I am sending the award on to…

I am the weaver, I am the woven one, I am the dreamer, I am the dream...

If we were to watch a weaver sewing a tapestry for only a few moments, and focused on only a small piece of the work, it would not look beautiful. It would look like a few peculiar threads randomly placed. How often we use that same, limited perspective to look at our life - especially when we are going through a difficult time.

Beautiful quotes like this help me to breathe through the challenging times... I am feeling saaaaaaaaaaad today. Matt’s gone back to the US again…and…I’m still here in Canada…hmmmmm…I like it here, yet would be back down in the US and with my man in a heartbeat if possible…ho-hummmm…lots of breathing deep and letting go here…waiting for the visa blahblah to unravel itself…and accepting that this too shall pass… ;)

On October the 5th I had:

1 litre water
1.5 litres watermelon juice
1 litre green juice with carrot
1 atamoya
bowl of durian blended with mulberries and freshly picked blackberries – mmmmmMMMMmmmmm ;)green Vega bar
500ml water
800ml green juice with carrots
500ml water

I am also extremely sad to be absent from the Raw Spirit Festie next weekend…it’s going to be SUCH a tremendous event and I am SO excited for all of you who are going to co-create this amazing happening…mmmmm, well, I’m with you, in the ether…aaaand, happy raw events are happening here in Canada too, after all ;) We just spoke to a gorgeous little raw potluck gathering last night for example and I plan to also speak at YogaWest on Oct 27th, from 3pm (2662 West 4th Ave, Vancouver)…keep an eye on rawbc.org for updates and I hope to see you there if you’re around… ;)

on October the 6th I had:

1 litre water
1 litre watermelon/pineapple juice
bunch of exquisite yellow-green grapes
800ml green juice with carrot
bowl of ‘mushroom’ soup – (From Ani Phyo’s book: brazil nuts, garlic, water, salt, olive oil) with dulse and a chopped apple
500ml water
plate of yummy savoury raw potluck food, bowl of delicious pieces of raw desserts
1 litre water

EXCITING OPPORTUNITY ALERT ;)
Would you like to help me film some exclusive raw food promo footage? I’m looking for someone with a Sony Z1U HD Camera to work on a piece with me for a large-scale raw food production. If you (or somebody you know) have suitable camera experience and are (preferably) in the west of Canada somewhere, do drop me a line at angela@rawreform.com and let me know…

Love, Chocolates and Podgy Smurfettes...

Yummy news – BOOK 7 of the Anastasia series is now out…oooooooOOOoooo…'The Energy of Life' is available HERE on the RawReform Store…I’m impressed if any of you are already that far into the series…personally I’m about to start Book 3 – 'The Space of Love' – and am LOVING this journey…mmmmm…I also LOVE the inexplicably delicious Raw Chocolate Truffles we just added to the store too…have you TRIED those things? They’re off-the-scale divine in raw cacao terms…the 'dark cacao' flavour is my favourite...they're the best raw chocolates I’ve tasted in fact and made with so much love by their creators in Asheville, NC – thanks peoples ;)

On October the 3rd I had:

1 litre water
small box of luscious organic raspberries
1.2 litres galia melon/orange juice
2 persimmons
800ml green juice with carrot
1 tbsp amazon bliss butter
500ml water
1 baby jack fruit, 2 persimmons and a few durian pods
1 litre water

Hey, uber-fabulous raw/chic/eco kids Gliving recently put up another article tapped out by my very fingers…it’s a juicy one…a 5-day Juice Feasting plan for those who feel just way too ‘city’ to slow down for juicy days…see it HERE.

on October the 4th I had:

1 litre water
1.1 litres orange/mango juice with coconut water
1 atamoya
400ml beet/celery/carrot juice
2 figs, 1 enormous peach
4tbsp hemp seed/pollen mix – yummmmmmmm ;)
little handful of dulse with sprouts and pumpkin seed butter – ridiculously good…
2 goji/cacao treats
350ml green juice with carrot
400ml peppermint tea
1 litre water

I would just love to share this…I have a statistics monitor for this e-journal, which lets me know, among other things, which keywords people type in to search engines like Google, to end up on my pages…well, aside from the expected queries such as ‘raw food’, ‘raw weight loss’, ‘angela stokes’ and so on, there are often plenty of quite peculiar items too…for example, check out this list below for ten of the more curious queries of the last few days…

things coming out of my skin
pictures of a tongue from not drinking enough liquid
durian medicine
morbidly obese monarchs
sinus tube eye
lifes just beachy
how much does lychee usually cost at a supermarket in michigan
raspberry honey bowel
parasites swarm orange juice
smurfette junk food

I love it…it’s so funny for me to see how people end up reading my stuff…and I'm sure these lines could be easily re-arranged into 'modern poetry' and passed off as performance art...anyway, if you’re one of those people who ‘accidentally’ ended up on this blog page while searching for, perhaps, the ‘average weight of a morbidly obese smurfette in Michigan’ or something similar, WELCOME, I do hope you find all you need here… ;)

Sharing the Loooooove...

Today my radio interview with long-term health seeker and raw foodie Revvell Revati went up online. Revvell interviews many different speakers about health, success and realising our potential. She seems a lovely being, sharing useful, illuminating info with the world via internet radio and this was a fun interview to do… ;) You can listen to the interview for free here: http://www.bigmediausa.com/archive.asp?aid=10513

on October the 1st I had:

1 litre water
1.5 litres watermelon juice
3 fresh baby corn-on-the-cobs
500ml green juice with carrot
bowl of durian blended with young coconut meat swirled with cinnamon and cut up dried figs
500ml water
1 litre green juice with carrot
phenomenal bowl of sea spaghetti seaweed with pumpkin seed butter and granulated wrack seaweed; a few baby tomatoes on the side
Pro to go sachets for ‘dessert’ ;)
1 litre water

I’ve been making quite a few little updates on the RawReform main site the last few days…one area I was working on was the FAQs pages…I found it interesting to note that by far the most frequently viewed Q on there was:

‘What are the drawbacks of being raw?’

Hmmmm…intriguing that this is what seemingly interests people the most…the possible ‘negative’ aspects of being raw…I wonder why…looking for escape hatches from the inevitable detox perhaps …??? ;) It’s all a choice, it’s all a choice, it’s all just a choice… ;)

on October the 2nd I had:

700ml water
1.2 litres galia melon/orange juice
2 peaches
1 litre green juice with carrot
little bowl of sea spaghetti seaweed with pumpkin seed butter and granulated wrack seaweed; a few baby tomatoes on the side, followed by a big spoonful of the outrageously tasty Amazon Bliss Butter
500ml water
romaine wraps with durian, orange juice and lime juice
1 litre water

I get beautiful daily emails from a recovery service called Hazelden – I wanted to share here a recent posting from them, which really spoke to me:

“ ‘The gift of love means this: I want to share with you whatever I have that is good.
-- John Powell, S.J.

How loving are we, really? Do we keep score when we do favors for a friend, keeping in mind that we're owed one? Do we hoard rather than share a favorite treat, hoping to prolong our own feast? And the good mood, when it's ours, do we use it to help another raise her spirits or do we secretly gloat because we're "in a better place"?

The opportunity to respond with love visits us throughout each day. A smile, a kind gesture, including someone in a conversation, noticing a job well done, are acts of love, acts that connect our hearts, at least for a moment.

When someone has shared love with us in some form, we notice it and are moved.”

Beautiful... To sign up to receive these kind of uplifting daily msgs yourself from Hazelden, you can subscribe to the ‘Daily Gift’ emails from THIS PAGE
